Summary
- Only a few Naruto characters are immune to taijutsu, achieved through unique abilities or kekkei genkai.
- Obito Uchiha can phase through attacks using Kamui, rendering him almost invincible.
- Suigetsu Hozuki and Konan are also immune to taijutsu attacks due to their water and paper transformations.
The Naruto series features a dynamic power system that comprises three different ninja arts; Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and Taijutsu. Immunity to ninjutsu is often a topic of debate among the Naruto fandom due to its incessant usage in both the Naruto and Boruto series. However, there have also been a few cases of characters being immune to taijutsu, a concept that is largely unheard of in the Naruto series.
Only a select few characters have achieved this feat, either through their unique kekkei genkai or some sort of acquired ninjutsu. Since most battles in Naruto rely heavily on ninjutsu, being immune to taijutsu isn’t exactly considered an immense feat. Nevertheless, it’s worth considering that being immune to taijutsu would be highly useful in the Boruto series, considering the number of characters equipped with the power to negate ninjutsu altogether. While the Boruto series has yet to introduce such a character, the Naruto series has a few contenders that check all the boxes for taijutsu immunity.

Teleportation powers can be some of the strongest techniques in the right hands. Here’s a look at some of the best ones in the series.
Defining Immunity to Taijutsu
Characters That Can Almost Phase Through Physical Attacks
Taijutsu refers to any form of physical fighting between two shinobi, a definition that makes the concept of taijutsu immunity rather obscure. Some might consider taijutsu immunity to being sustaining minimal or no damage from a physical attack. However, this definition would still be inaccurate, since opponents would still be able to land their attacks and sustain and leave behind some form of damage.
Therefore, it would be more accurate to state that being immune to taijutsu means that either the physical attacks either entirely pass through the target or have no effect whatsoever. This criterion narrows down taijutsu immunity to only a select few characters in the entirety of the Naruto series.
Obito Uchiha’s Intangibility
Obito Can Phase Through Attacks Using Kamui
First Appearance |
Naruto Shippuden, Episode 32 “Return of the Kazekage” |
Debut Date |
October 25, 2007 |
The most obvious example of a character with taijutsu immunity in the Naruto universe is Obito Uchiha, a character who can phase through both physical and chakra-based attacks. Obito was able to achieve this feat through his Mangekyou Sharingan ability, Kamui. With the use of Kamui, Obito was able to phase through attacks, resulting in them having no effect on him. While Kamui’s immunity extends to both ninjutsu and taijutsu, it was more pronounced in the case of hand-to-hand combat, where Obito’s opponent would quite literally pass through him.
On the surface, it may seem that Obito is phasing through his opponent’s attacks. In actuality, however, the parts of Obito’s body that are in contact with his opponents are automatically teleported to the Kamui dimension, meaning that Obito could still sustain damage if he were to be attacked in the Kamui dimension. However, such an instance is highly unlikely, as it would only be possible if another character were to have access to Kamui, such as Kakashi. While Obito’s ability to phase through almost everything might deem him entirely invincible, it’s worth noting that Kamui itself has certain limitations that balance the overall ability.
For instance, once Obito is in his immune state, he can no longer attack his opponents, as his attacks will also phase through them. Moreover, Obito cannot stay in his intangible state for more than 5 minutes, meaning his body will be forced to return to normal if he were to keep his ability active continuously. This was witnessed in his fight against Konan, who used a barrage of bombs to trap Obito and keep his Kamui active for more than 5 minutes. Konan’s strategy would have been successful if it weren’t for Obito using Izanagi to rewrite reality and survive the attack. Even with Kamui’s weaknesses, however, the ability is arguably one of the strongest in terms of providing immunity against taijutsu altogether.
Suigetsu Hozuki’s Hydrification
He Can Convert Himself into Water Using the Hozuki Clan’s Kekkei Genkai
First Appearance |
Naruto Shippiden, Episode 115 “Zabuza’s Blade” |
Debut Date |
June 25, 2009 |
Suigetsu Hozuki is another character in the Naruto series who is almost entirely immune to the effects of taijutsu. Suigetsu can achieve this feat through his clan’s Hydrification Kekkei Genkai, an ability that allows him to turn his body into water. By doing so, he can dodge almost every attack instantaneously, as he takes no damage in his water state. The Hozuki Clan’s Kekkei Genkai is arguably one of the strongest bloodline techniques in the Naruto series. While it lacks providing any offense, the Kekkei Genkai offers the ultimate defense, as it renders all taijutsu ineffective against a user.

Naruto was nerfed in Boruto. His Truth-Seeking Balls were very overpowered.
However, it is worth noting that, unlike Obito’s Kamui, Suigetsu’s Kekkei Genkai does not make him immune to ninjutsu. While he is slightly resistant to ninjutsu due to his technique, he is especially vulnerable to lightning-style attacks, which is logical considering his entire body turns to water. This was witnessed during the Five Kage Summit, when Suigetsu was restrained by Darui through an electrified blade, which forced him to stay in solid form.
Another instance of Suigetsu’s invulnerability was at play during Sasuke and Team Hebi’s attempt at retrieving the Eight Tails. During that incident, Suigetsu had to take a tank and an entire Tailed Beast Bomb head-on, an attack that would instantly obliterate any regular shinobi. However, Suigetsu was able to survive the ordeal only because he turned into his water form at the very last second. While the technique isn’t entirely immune to ninjutsu, this instance showcases that Suigetsu’s invulnerability extends not only to taijutsu, but also some forms of ninjutsu.
Konan’s Dance Of the Shikigami
Dance of the Shikigami Allows Konan to Turn Into Paper
First Appearance |
Naruto Shippuden, Episode 125 “Disappearance” |
Debut Date |
September 03, 2009 |
Koonan is a character that tends to fly under the radar when it comes to strength and power, largely due to the fact that her abilities are more focused on utility and escape. However, her true trump card is her ability to turn herself into paper, an ability that essentially allows her to negate any and all taijutsu attacks. Konan naturally had an inclination towards origami from her childhood, a passion that she incorporated into her ninjutsu by acquiring the Dance of the Shikigami technique. This ability allows her to materialize her chakra into paper, in-turn allowing her to convert her entire body to sheets of paper.

The high stakes of these Naruto arcs forced its characters to grow and mature as a result of the experience, becoming stronger ninja in the process.
However, this invulnerability is only limited to taijutsu, as her fight against Jiraiya revealed that her papers were especially weak against Jiraiya’s Toad Oil jutsu and other fire style techniques. She was also able to hold her own against Obito Uchiha during her final battle, largely due to being able to dodge his attacks by turning into paper. She would likely have survived the ordeal if she hadn’t drained all of her chakra, as Obito’s final blow, ironically, was a physical attack that finally took her life.
Gengentsu Hozuki’s Liquidation
Used the Hozuki Clan’s Hydrification Technique
First Appearance |
Naruto Shippuden, Episode 267 “The Brilliant Military Advisor of the Hidden Leaf” |
Debut Date |
June 21, 2012 |
Despite being one of the strongest Mizukage in the Hidden Mist Village’s history, Gengetsu failed to leave behind a memorable legacy, largely due to his predecessors erasing most of the village’s history. However, the Fourth Great Ninja War allowed Gengetsu to finally shine through and reveal his true strength, as his reincarnated self went undefeated. Even with an entire division of the Shinobi Alliance fighting him head-on, Gengetsu was never pinned down and sealed away.
His feat of remaining undefeated can be attributed to his invulnerability to physical attacks, which also stems from the Hozuki clan’s Kekkei Genkai. As a member of the Hozuki clan, Gengetsu Hozuki has the very same Kekkei Genkai as Suigetsu, which allows its users to turn into water and negate all physical attacks. While Gengetsu had multiple trump cards in his arsenal and several powerful abilities, his power to remain immune to physical attacks gave him a significant edge throughout the entire battle.
