Before 2025 even began, it looked like it was going to be an absolutely huge year for video games. Just two months in and that’s already been proven to be the case, with the Nintendo Switch 2 finally being revealed, Xbox having a star-studded line-up of games, and GTA 6 seemingly still on track to launch in the Fall of this year.

While Xbox and Nintendo have been pretty open about the year to come, PlayStation has been a little quiet overall. That’s just changed tonight with its first State of Play of the year, which we knew very little about going in but has proven to be full of surprises. One announcement in particular was a great moment for those enjoying how filled the year has been with ninjas.
Shinobi Is Back This August With Art Of Vengeance
Back in 2023, Sega debuted a trailer at The Game Awards 2023 that confirmed it was working on rebooting several of its well-known series, such as Crazy Taxi, Jet Set Radio, and more. The most exciting of these was a new Shinobi game, which stunned with watercolour visuals and a classic 2D perspective.
Aside from a very brief leak a few months ago, we haven’t seen that Shinobi game since, but it just got re-revealed at PlayStation’s State of Play as Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, a 2D side-scroller from Lizardcube, the team behind the excellent Streets of Rage 4. Shinobi: Art of Vengenace brings back series protagonist Joe Mushahi as he goes on a brand new and gorgeous adventure.
Even though this is only the second time we’ve seen Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, Sega already has a release date in mind for the title, as it was revealed to be coming in a few months on August 29 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series, Steam, and Nintendo Switch. The game will shortly be made available for pre-order on some of those consoles.
Art of Vengeance’s pre-orders will let players have a 10 percent discount, an outfit based on the arcade games, and a special amulet. A digital deluxe edition will also be available, which comes with a season pass that includes a Sega Villains stage DLC. That DLC is coming in early 2026 and will feature bosses based on Sega classics.
