First Steps Trailer Hiding A Huge Detail?

The recent reveal trailer for Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps has become a subject of intense scrutiny, not solely for its content, but for any little clue about what the movie might entail. While most people were checking out the Fantastic Four‘s latest trailer to see the heroes or even the planet-killing villain, some sharp-eyed fans noticed something very interesting.

The First Steps trailer did of course, introduce fans to the characters that will make up this group’s entry into the MCU and showed that this movie will take on a different look and feel than what Marvel Cinematic Universe fans are used to. It showed off what is the third versions of Reed Richards, Ben Grimm (otherwise known as the Thing) and Johnny and Sue Storm that will have hit the big screen in the last 20 years. The movie also showed off what’s expected to be the big villain of this movie in Galactus, an entity that devours planets and is often preceded to those planets by his envoy, the Silver Surfer. But it was what the trailer didn’t show that had some Marvel fans doing a bit of sleuthing.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps Trailer Hiding A Big Secret?

In this new trailer, there is a brief scene that some users have interpret as depicting a labor sequence aboard a spaceship, with Mr. Fantastic seemingly comforting his wife. However, it’s another scene that more specifically seems to have been edited in such a way as to hide that Sue is going to spend at least some of the film pregnant. The scene comes when Reed is talking to a man about the group doing “family dinners” and the way that Sue moves around and holds herself has convinced Twitter users that the video was edited to cut out the baby bump so that it would be a reveal for a later trailer or for the movie itself. Another scene in the same trailer seems to show Sue sitting at an interesting angle and very obviously cuts off showing her stomach.

Marvel’s history of employing such tactics is well-documented. The removal of Spider-Man characters from trailers for Spider-Man: No Way Home serves as a prime example of the studio’s willingness to manipulate visuals to protect plot points. This precedent has lent credence to the theory that Sue Storm’s potential pregnancy is being deliberately concealed. Though at the moment, the odd way the character moves around the room is the only piece of evidence of those claims.

The motivations behind such a decision are subject to varied interpretations. Some suggest that it is purely a measure to avoid spoilers and maintain audience surprise. Others propose that the pregnancy itself could be a pivotal element of the film’s narrative, necessitating secrecy. The children, Franklin and Valeria are important characters in The Fantastic Four comics and there’s been many questions about whether they might be introduced to the MCU soon.

Should Sue be pregnant, it’s possible that the trailer was edited in a way and the baby bump edited out so that the conversation about the “family dinner” scene would look like it takes place in the middle of The Fantastic Four: First Steps when in fact, if Sue is pregnant, if could be one of the final scenes, introducing the idea of elder son Franklin making his MCU debut in Avengers: Doomsday.
