All about the explosively popular fifth love interest in Love And Deepspace. Here’s everything you need to know about Caleb, the boy next door.

But to the MC, Xavier is a soft-spoken and formidable partner who she can always rely on. The two form a powerful duo, with Xavier’s light Evol supporting her resonance Evol perfectly. However, no matter how close the MC and Xavier get during the main story, there’s still much she doesn’t know about him.

This article contains spoilers for the main story and many of Xavier’s memory cards.

Who Is Xavier?

Love And Deepspace: An image of Xavier waking up from napping on his desk.

Xavier is the MC’s Hunter partner in UNICORNS, as well as her upstairs neighbor. He’s the best Hunter in the Association and his work hunting Wanderers in the No-Hunt Zones has saved countless lives.

While Xavier currently lives in Linkon, he was originally born on Philos, a planet on the other side of the Deepspace Tunnel. Additionally, Xavier is a time traveler who has traveled to Linkon from hundreds of years in the future.

Due to the complicated nature of time travel, no one is sure how old Xavier is, but based on the few dates mentioned in the story and the fact that he comes from an eternal race of humans, he could very well be several hundred years old.

While his age is unknown, his birthday is not. Xavier was born on October 16th, making him a Libra.

He is six feet one inch tall (185.42 cm) with ash-blond hair and a soft complexion. Xavier’s gentle appearance and soft face contrast with his intimidating aura.

Xavier also possesses abilities unique even among Evolvers. His Evol is Light manipulation, one of the strongest Evols recorded. He is also able to teleport over long distances and move faster than the average person.

Xavier is also an experienced swordsman and wields the fabled Lightblade, a sword that has been passed down through generations of royalty on Philos.

Personality

Love And Deepspace: An image of Xavier napping next to the MC.

Xavier’s personality is a bit enigmatic, but he’s generally considered difficult to approach despite his gentle appearance. He’s soft-spoken when conversing with his friends or the MC, but his voice deepens menacingly when in battle or talking to someone he considers an adversary.

In a text message with the MC during the Festive Blessing Event, his fellow Hunters even believed he was going to spend the holiday alone simply because of how closed off and intimidating he seems.

Most people are intimidated by Xavier’s quiet nature and mysterious outings. He often leaves his apartment in the middle of the night, using the window to teleport away rather than leaving through the front door.

In another text message with the MC about a mandatory building meeting, the MC tells him that their neighbors even believe Xavier is mixed up in shady dealings, simply because of his odd hours and habits.

Xavier often sleeps through the day or at unusual locations and times. He can fall asleep just about anywhere, including standing up. This is quite alarming to people who don’t know him.

Yet, despite his confusing sleeping habits and contradictory appearance, Xavier is a formidable hunter and the best one in UNICORNS. It’s common knowledge in the Association that Xavier is not a man to be messed with or taken lightly. His Evol and sword skills make him a considerable threat to anyone who opposes him.

Xavier also has a bit of a dark side that deters others from getting close to him. This is particularly obvious when it comes to his relationship with the MC. Xavier is quite possessive of the MC and jealous when she gives attention to or receives attention from others, particularly men.

Xavier’s possessive streak has even driven him to murder on behalf of the MC. In the main story, members of the Backtrackers (the time travelers he came to Linkon with) who try to threaten her safety are swiftly and secretly executed. The MC is unaware of these encounters.

Work Life

Xavier works as a Hunter at the Hunter Association in Linkon. He is a member of the special forces group, UNICORNS, and the MC’s hunter partner.

He is also a Tenebra, though it’s unclear if anyone within the Association knows that he has broken the Hunter’s Code. As part of his Tenebra activities, Xavier hunts bounties posted in the Nest and turns in the Protocores he gets from them. However, he never takes payment for these bounties.

Xavier’s Past

Love And Deepspace: An image of Xavier napping in the MC's lap.

Back on Philos, Xavier was a crown prince, set to inherit his father’s throne. However, after coming to Linkon via the Deepspace Tunnel, his title holds little sway over anyone but the small crew he traveled back in time with.

On Philos, Xavier was in love with another incarnation of the MC. To save her from an endless cycle of death and resurrection, Xavier traveled back in time searching for a cure or an alternative for the energy source her heart provides.

Lumiere

When the MC was a child, the research facility she lived in was destroyed during the Chronorift Catastrophe. All around her was destruction at the hands of Wanderers, who newly appeared from the Deepspace Tunnel.

Terrified, she tried to survive the brutal battle zone that had once been her home. All of a sudden, a glowing presence appeared on the field — it was the masked Hunter, Lumiere. He stepped onto the field and became the first person ever to kill a Wanderer.

Lumiere’s intervention ultimately saved the MC from the Wanderer, Tezcatlipoca. After the Chronorift Catastrophe, Lumiere quickly became the best Hunter in the Association. However, very little was ever known about him. He is assumed to be in his forties by the time the main story starts, but no one truly knows his age.

The truth, however, is right in front of the MC’s eyes. Lumiere is Xavier. While she doesn’t quite understand how the timing would add up, the MC begins to suspect the truth that Xavier is the same Lumiere who had saved her and countless others during the Chronorift Catastrophe.

At the end of the Prologue, Xavier enters The Nest, bringing Protocore fragments in as bounties. This is proof not only that he is Lumiere, but that he is also a Tenebra who participates in illegal Protocore transactions.

While the MC can’t yet prove that Xavier is Lumiere, she does know a bit about the legendary hero. Lumiere is now a Tenebra, a rogue Hunter who broke the Hunter’s Code. Tenebrae are known to smuggle Protocores, endanger civilians, and join criminal organizations like Onychinus.

The Backtrackers

Love And Deepspace: An image of Lumiere, unmasked.

The Backtrackers are the group of Lightseeker Knights that Xavier brought with him from Philos to Earth. They took their spaceship, Traceback II, through the Deepspace Tunnel to find a way to save not only Philos, but the MC, who is now the planet’s queen.

The Backtracker’s initial mission was to head back in time to find a way to save the people of Philos. What the Backtrackers did not realize is that by heading back in time to stop the endless cycle of the MC’s death and rebirth at the center of the planet, they were slowly erasing the Philos of the future.

Each one of the Backtrackers is slowly fading away. They lose their memories, are forgotten by those around them, and some even become Wanderers.

Because of their new predicament, factions have broken out within the Backtrackers. Some think of Xavier as a traitor for bringing them here ultimately to erase them all. Others share Xavier’s values and believe that it is wrong to sacrifice even one soul for the life of the planet.

Some Backtrackers believe that their mission is to save themselves, while others believe that their mission is to protect their loved ones. For Xavier, only one soul matters and that is the soul of his beloved, the MC.

Jeremiah is among the Backtrackers who support Xavier’s decision to end the cycle of sacrifice.

Xavier’s Myth – Shooting Stars

Love And Deepspace: An image of Xavier leaning on the MC.

Xavier’s myth begins with him holding a secret meeting with the new ‘crownless’ queen of Philos — an incarnation of the MC. Xavier, her Grandis Knight, is preparing to leave on a mission with the Backtrackers to go back in time. The MC, knowing that Xavier’s mission must remain a secret, pronounces him dead to the kingdom.

After the MC tells Xavier she will announce his valiant sacrifice, she realizes that Xavier hasn’t called her by her name for many long years. Nostalgic, she gazes at the star tassel on his sword. She then begins to reminisce about their time at Astria Knyght Academy.

In the MC’s flashback to their time at the Academy, she eagerly awaits the return of the crown prince, Xavier, from a Starhunters space expedition. She approaches Jeremiah, the vice-captain of the Starhunters expedition, and asks him where the crown prince, Xavier is.

Jeremiah covers for Xavier, trying to distract the MC from going to find him up at his secret spot atop the academy’s clock tower. The star-shaped sword tassel reappears, and the MC notices that Xavier is staring longingly at it.

Starhunters are knights who specialize in the Strengthe swordsmanship style. Xavier is the prefect of the Starhunters, while the MC is the prefect of the Moonchasers, a house in the Academy who specializes in the Supporto swordsmanship style.

The MC recalls that several months ago, Xavier had disappeared despite the Academy’s insistence that all students declare their whereabouts due to increased Wanderer activity. It’s during that curfew that Xavier boards the Starhunter expedition and flees for the stars without a word to his family.

The MC had covered for him, refusing to tell his family where he had gone.

She asks him about the tassel on his sword, but Xavier dodges each of her questions. Instead of telling her who gave him the tassel, Xavier asks the MC to do him a favor and meet at noon the next day.

Xavier and the MC train at Astria Knyght Academy to become Lightseekers, special knights who answer directly to the royal family. In the myth, Xavier tells the MC that the Lightseekers are currently only looking to add one person to their ranks.

Xavier and the MC pretend that they are enemy prefects and rivals for the last Lightseeker position. The pair stage a duel in the square and Xavier rigs it so that the MC will win.

During the setup for their duel, Xavier reveals that he is intentionally losing his battles so that he doesn’t have to return home to the royal family and his father, whom he has a tense relationship with. He even goes so far as to say he wishes the king was not his father at all.

When it seems he could be injured by the MC’s strike, the royal guards break up their duel and drag Xavier away. However, it is the MC who ends up injured, nursing a sprained ankle in the aftermath of the fight. Jeremiah finds her and explains that Xavier is upset because the royal family is discussing arranging his marriage.

Both Xavier and the MC share a swordsmanship instructor. The MC is being trained specifically to become the Grandis Knight, the crown prince’s protector. However, Xavier admits that he’s unsure if he will ever sit on the throne, as he has no desire to.

The idea of the MC being the Grandis Knight to someone who isn’t him disturbs Xavier. He doesn’t want her to swear fealty to anyone but him. He plans to refuse the crown and asks that she give up on joining the Lightseekers.

Instead, he asks her to run away with him to Uluru, a newborn planet he discovered on his last expedition. He tells her that should he successfully avoid being crowned king and should she give up on being Grandis Knight, he wants to elope with her to Uluru.

In another flashback, the MC recalls one of Xavier’s many trials as the future king. His father had sent him into Starfall Forest for the Gladius Ceremony. In the ceremony, Xavier was told to enter the forest and slay the Wanderer that made its home there.

After seven days, Xavier returns, the Wanderer’s protocore in his hands. However, rather than be overjoyed that he passed the trial, Xavier hugged the MC silently, his entire demeanor dark. He had never been the same after his encounter in the forest, though he had yet to tell the MC what happened.

The next day, Xavier prepares to meet his Father at the royal palace. Before he leaves, the MC asks again who gave him the star-shaped tassel. He admits that it’s from the woman he loves more than anything, but that she deserted him years ago.

He tells the MC that he is not sad, because even though he has crossed paths with his lover again, she has no memory of him. The two talk for a while, the romantic tension in the air high, and without saying it outright, it becomes apparent that they are in love with each other. Xavier then leaves for the ceremony at the palace.

However, unlike in the past when Xavier would always return within the timeframe he gave the MC, he did not return. No one knew where he had gone, and their teacher refused to talk about him. The MC continued her training and passed the Lightseeker exam, the next step she needed to take to become Xavier’s protector.

During Xavier’s prolonged absence, the King died. The kingdom declared that after a 200-year mourning period, a successor would be chosen. Those two hundred years were bleak without a ruler. The knights now had no one to swear fealty to, and they separated into squads the world over.

The MC continued training to be the best Knight she could be, determined that should Xavier come home one day, she would stand by his side again. Instead, she had Jeremiah at her side, the only person who she could still talk to about Xavier, though his opinion of the prince had been damaged by his absence.

On a mission to Starfall Forest, the MC leaves her group in the night, distracted by an illusion in the woods. She thought she had seen Xavier and ran into the heart of the forest where she fell into a strange pocket realm filled with stars. She believed she was dying until the real Xavier truly appeared and saved her from the darkness.

Xavier claims he had been in Starfall Forest the whole time, trying to hunt the Wanderers that kept respawning there after they were cut down. The two seem awkward around each other given the time they’d spent apart, but it’s clear they still love one another.

Yet, when the MC presses Xavier for more details about their time apart, he continues to deflect. In the end, the MC — with the help of Jeremiah — pretends that she has been experiencing fits since escaping the forest’s illusion. Xavier immediately fears that it is her heart and takes her to his spaceship to heal.

All incarnations of the MC seem to have a heart condition. This is likely due to the Aether Core in their chests. Even though the MC in Xavier’s myth was unaware of a heart condition, Xavier had known for a long time.

Feeling guilty, the MC reveals that she had been pretending to be ill so that she could gain clues about what he’s hiding. He eventually tells her that he has discovered the secret that Philos had been hiding this whole time.

He had learned that Philos was a hollow planet, built by humans. However, the planet was slowly dying as its core had been depleted. Xavier learned that since the humans on Philos were nearly eternal, the planet was slowly siphoning their energy to keep itself alive.

Additionally, a side-effect of the energy transfer was the creation of Wanderers. Xavier had discovered all of this during his Gladius Ceremony. He realized that the Wanderers in Starfall Forest had once been people and that their Protocores were once human hearts.

The royal family had been sending humans into Starfall Forest for hundreds of years to keep the planet alive. Xavier found the practice despicable. Yet, when he returned to the palace before his father died, he learned that the royal family had found the perfect sacrifice to recharge the planet: a girl who could be reborn infinitely.

A planet that uses to survive doesn’t deserve to be saved.

His Titulus Ceremony was meant to be the final sacrifice. He was to take the MC to the center of Starfall Forest so that she could be thrown into its heart and die and be reborn again and again infinitely so that the planet could survive. He refused to partake in the ritual.

Xavier had created the Backtrackers to find an alternative to the planet’s energy problem, not just to save the planet, but to save the woman he loved more than anything. That woman was the MC, the one whose heart could be sacrificed endlessly to sustain the planet.

Understanding the importance of his mission, the MC promises to stay behind and rule in his stead. She will become queen to protect the people they hold dear while he searches for their salvation.

Xavier vows to reunite with her when she becomes queen, only this time, as her knight.

Even though the MC in the current timeline is different from the MC who is the queen on Philos, Xavier believes they are in essence the same person. To him, there is no distinction between one or the other.

He proves this when he tells the MC in the myth that he has only ever received a star from one beloved, despite both women giving him a different star.
