The concept of loyalty in One Piece has always been an interesting topic throughout the series. Specifically, trusting in the strength and resolve of a captain is a huge example of what loyalty in One Piece should be. Finally, respect is another important quality for a loyal crew member, as it shows that they take their captain seriously.

Even with these three qualities, self-sacrifice, trust, and respect, it’s still difficult to pin down which Straw Hat is the most loyal to the protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, and the crew as a whole. To further quantify their loyalty, taking a look at moments where the loyalty of the Straw Hats was tested is a great way to show who underwent the worst trial to protect their captain. However, since not every character has faced a severe trial for Luffy directly, it may be harder to quantify certain characters.

First up, deserving an honorable mention, although he hasn’t been in the crew for as long as the others, is the former Warlord, Jinbe. Jinbe has been extremely loyal to Luffy, even before he joined the crew, sacrificing his well-being countless times throughout Marineford to protect the Straw Hat Captain. Additionally, Jinbe undergoing Big Mom’s “Stay or Life,” when attempting to leave her crew, showed his absolute loyalty, even when he potentially faced losing a large portion of his life.

Next, once again deserving an honorable mention, is the musician of the Straw Hat Crew, Brook. While he isn’t the most impactful fighter of the crew, Brook has consistently proven his respect and faith in not only Luffy but the entire crew. Out of any other character, it seems that Brook believes in the strength of his crew members the most. Additionally, Brook’s major trial of loyalty, his battle against Big Mom, showed that even a weaker member of the crew is loyal enough to face off against an Emperor, even if it means certain death.

Finally, as many fans of the series may expect, the most loyal crew member of the Straw Hat Pirates is the powerful One Piece swordsman, Zoro. Although he jokes around with Luffy at times, no other character believes that Luffy will accomplish his dream of becoming the Pirate King in One Piece like Zoro. Throughout the series, Zoro has undergone countless trials for Luffy, ranging from his battle with Mihawk to his encounter with Kuma. No character has endured as much pain for the Straw Hat Crew and remained undeterred.

In the end, although it’s easy to see why Zoro could be considered the most loyal member of the Straw Hat Crew in One Piece, each of the other crew members is loyal in their way. For that reason, picking out someone to be considered the “most loyal” is an impossible task. Overall, One Piece’s Straw Hats are more of a family than a pirate crew, and they would never consider abandoning a member of their family.
