- The unverified rumour suggested that the next game features a younger Kratos in Greece, suggesting a prequel
A reliable gaming insider has heard rumours that the next God of War game will feature a “younger Kratos” returning to Greece, which could indicate a remake or a prequel.
Even though it hasn’t really been that long since God of War Ragnarok ended the Norse saga of games, the series continues to be one of PlayStation‘s most talked-about. Well, outside of Bloodborne that is. While there’s no confirmation that anything to do with God of War is currently in development, there have been a bunch of rumours regarding what might be next for Kratos.

Sony’s cancelled live-service God of War game might do better dead than alive.
Over the past few weeks, one of the biggest rumours to have come out is that the next God of War game could be tackling Egyptian mythology, which seems like a natural step considering how Kratos has already jumped from Greece to Midgard (but not to the world of live-services). It seems that might not be the case, though, as a gaming insider has heard another rumour altogether.
God Of War’s Next Game Could Be A Prequel
As pointed out by Redditor -LastGrail- on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit, the latest God of War rumour comes from Insider Gaming’s Tom Henderson, who recently appeared on the Insider Gaming Weekly podcast to talk about everything that’s happened this week. One of the big talking points of the podcast is what’s next for God of War.
Tom Henderson says that he received a message from a source claiming that the next God of War is going to be set in Greece once again and feature a “younger” Kratos. According to the source, the next game’s story will focus more on Kratos’ relationship with his own father, which could be interesting to see considering how the Norse duology centred around Kratos and Atreus.
From what I’ve been told, it isn’t set in Egypt – it’s actually set in Greece and it’s going to be a younger Kratos this time. – Tom Henderson
While a God of War prequel does sound quite interesting, Henderson does note that he wasn’t able to verify it himself and just wanted to mention the message to weigh in on the rumours surrounding the series so far. For now, it looks like we’ll have to wait until a deeper report to see if what’s said was true.
Since Ragnarok released, there have also been numerous rumours suggesting a remake or remaster of the Greek God of War games is on the way, so it seems that, if either of those claims is true, PlayStation is interested in returning to Kratos’ early years instead of moving forward. With how big God of War is, though, it seems likely we’ll eventually get a continuation as well.
