Hana-Kimi is a popular shojo manga from the 90s. For all its fame, Hana-kimi didn’t get an adaptation until several decades later. Hana-Kimi’s anime adaptation was announced in May 2024, and naturally, fans were elated by the update. Since then, they have been closely monitoring the official account for any potential news updates.
On February 4, 2025, a new teaser for Hana-Kimi was released. Along with the teaser, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for Crunchyroll shared the details about the main cast. The disclosure of the two things implies that a release is not far off. It is possible that Hana-Kimi might air towards the end of 2025 or in early 2026.

Hana-Kimi Anime Reveals Three Cast Members
As previously stated, Hana-Kimi revealed three main cast members, which include:
- Aya Yamane (Grand Blue Dreaming, The Unwanted Undead Adventurer, Rurouni Kenshin) as Mizuki Ashiya
- Taku Yashiro (Sakamoto Days, Honey Lemon Soda, To Your Eternity) as Izumi Sano
- Kikunosuke Toya (Chainsaw Man, The Elusive Samurai, Four Knights of the Apocalypse) as Shuichi Nakatsu
At the time of writing, no staff members have been confirmed, but fans should receive an update in the coming months.
Hana-Kimi is written by Hisaya Nakajo. It began serialization in Hakusensha’s Hana to Yume in 1996. The manga ended with a total of 23 volumes, and they sold rather well. Based on reports, the series has sold more than 17 million copies only in Japan. The overall number is likely to be around 20 million, as it received two English print releases by Viz Media.
Hana-Kimi may not have received an anime adaptation, but it has been the recipient of several live-action adaptations. The first adaptation aired in 2006 and had 15 episodes. The next one premiered in 2007 but only had 12 episodes. The other adaptations aired in 2011 and 2012, respectively.
What Is Hana-Kimi Manga About?
Hana-Kimi follows Mizuki Ashiya, a Japanese girl living in the United States. One day, while watching a track and field competition, Mizuki sees Izumi Sano. She is instantly impressed by his performance, so she decides to follow his career. After researching more about Izumi’s life, Mizuki finds that he attends Osaka High School, an all-boys school in Japan.
Mizuki makes up her mind and asks her parents to let her go to Japan. To enter Osaka High School, she cuts her hair and wears a disguise.
