Summary
- Ethan Embry from Empire Records is cast in Scream 7, excited for his character reveal.
- Speculation on Embry’s role: could be a red herring for Ghostface.
- Anticipation for new Scream 7 characters, including Ghostface’s identity.
I’m happy to hear any casting announcements for Scream 7, but I just might be the most thrilled about Ethan Embry being cast in the upcoming horror sequel. Embry’s credits include the hilarious and clever cult hit film Empire Records, the Netflix comedy Grace and Frankie, and the dark series Sneaky Pete. He’s a talented actor who can switch between comedy, thriller, and drama, no problem, and I think he’s a perfect Scream 7 addition along with legacy characters like Scott Foley’s Roman Bridger.
As Deadline reported, there are no plot details or explanations about Embry’s character. While it will be a while before fans find out exactly who he’s portraying, I have one idea about which character the actor should play and I think it works with the rest of the slasher story.

Who Should Ethan Embry Play In Scream 7?
Ethan Embry should play Sidney Prescott’s daughter’s teacher or Sidney Prescott’s coworker. Although there are some questions about Isabel May playing Sidney’s daughter, I’m still excited to see this mother/daughter dynamic. I think it would be interesting if Embry played an English or History teacher who is smart, cool, and encourages his students to work hard but have fun, too. I also think he could play a coworker of Sidney’s who she has bonded with. Maybe their kids are friends, or maybe they just get along well.
Most of all, I think Embry’s character could be a red herring for Ghostface. Maybe he has a crush on Sidney, which would make audiences wonder if he’s trying to get close to her so he can carry out an evil and dangerous plan. If Embry played a character who is close to Sidney and seems kind yet mysterious, that would make him fun to watch. I would say that several Ghostface fan theories seem to be on the right track, and it would also make sense if a teacher was the villain this time around. But I think that there will be a few fake-outs before the big and exciting reveal.
Embry’s Scream 7 character could be yet another victim of Ghostface, and I know that the body count has to be high to satisfy horror fans. While fans wonder if Sidney’s husband Mark Evans (Joel McHale) could be the first kill in the upcoming Scream sequel, Embry’s character could also be the first to die. Whether Embry’s character makes it to the end of the movie or not, I think he’s going to be someone who knows Sidney well and cares about her. I would hope that she has at least a few good people in her life after the tragedies she has encountered over the past few decades.
What Other New Characters Should Be In Scream 7?
With so many new actors being added to the cast, from Live with Kelly and Mark host Mark Consuelos to Joel McHale as Sidney Prescott’s husband, it’s the perfect time to think about the fresh faces in Scream 7 cast. While the younger actors are playing Sidney’s children and most likely their friends and classmates, it’s a little trickier to try to guess who the older ones are portraying.
Of course, one of the new cast members is Ghostface, and it’s fun to try to imagine whether it could be Sidney’s husband or someone else in her life. The other cast members are likely playing the parents of Sidney’s kids’ friends, teachers at their school, and possibly people who work with Sidney and/or Gale Weathers. Since Gale should be front and center in Scream 7, I’d love to see Gale have a smart and funny new co-worker. Maybe Gale is living in Woodsboro again or still in New York City, but either way, she could co-host a podcast or news show with one of the new cast members. There is just over one year until Scream 7‘s February 27th, 2026 release date, and I can’t wait to see who Ghostface is… or if a few characters wear the iconic black and white mask.
