Player First Games has officially confirmed that MultiVersus will be once again going offline with its fifth season, which will introduce Aquaman and Lola Bunny as the final playable characters.
As anyone who has been keeping even one eye on MultiVersus will know, it’s not had the best run of things since returning last year. While Player First Games has managed to add a number of requested characters like Samurai Jack, Raven, and the Powerpuff Girls (as well as ones no one wanted like Banana Guard and Nubia), it hasn’t been enough to keep the game afloat.

MultiVersus let me down with its first season, but Samurai Jack and Beetlejuice are here to save the day.
Yesterday, rumours started flying that Season 5 of MultiVersus was being viewed as a “last-ditch” effort to save the game, and that it might be the last update depending on its performance. It seems that Warner Bros. has decided not to bother seeing how the update does, as Season 5 has just officially been confirmed as the end.
MultiVersus Is Dying Once Again After Season 5
The sad but inevitable news was confirmed over on the game’s Twitter page, which thanked MVPs for an “incredible ride” and linked to a blog post detailing the shutdown and what’s to come for the game. That blog post confirms that Season 5 is the last update for MultiVersus, which is ended with a whimper by bringing over Lola Bunny and Aquaman as the final characters.
That new season will begin on February 4 and run until May 30, before the game goes permanently offline. Rather than just not updating MultiVersus anymore and letting players enjoy what’s there online, Warner Bros. is completely shutting it down with an update that will let players mess around with offline matches and do pretty much nothing else.
Most importantly, we want to thank every player and person who has ever played or supported MultiVersus. All of us on the Player First Games and Warner Bros. Games teams have poured our heart and soul into this game. We will be forever grateful for the incredible support of the MultiVersus community throughout this journey. – Player First Games
With that shutdown comes the news that real money transactions are no longer going to be active in MultiVersus as of today, with players being able to spend the Gleamium they have but not buy any more. The news of MultiVersus going offline yet again should surprise no one, but it is a sad end to a game that had a lot more potential.
