While there were two Terrifier movies before the one that has made this horror franchise so popular, Terrifier 3 is the one that seems to have put Art the Clown on the map for more mainstream horror fans. Terrifier 3 arrived in 2024, bringing out of the bloodiest and goriest horror franchise in recent memory to theaters with a new take on Art the Clown. The third film in the ever-growing horror franchise was set during Christmas and managed to give director Dameon Leone a multi-genre body horror flick that did the best box office numbers of the entire series. It appears that the performance in theaters and now on streaming is so good that Leone was given the green light to go ahead and make another installment.

Terrifier 4 To Delve Into Art The Clown’s Origin
Earlier this week, Damian Leone took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that Terrifier 4 is officially in the works. But that wasn’t the only piece of good news for fans of the series. It also turns out that the next installment is “shaping up to be a most epic, thrilling, nasty, horrifying, emotional and utterly satisfying conclusion.”
While some fans of the Terrifier franchise are obviously going to be very sad to see the story come to an end, Leone added that it will indeed be the real end to the series and won’t be leaving any questions unanswered. The story for Terrifier 4 will also include the origin story of the series’ antagonist, Art the Clown. It would seem likely that Leone has kept this particular part of the story under wraps specifically because he was holding it until the fourth and final part of the franchise.
There has been plenty of speculation about just how Art the Clown came to be. Given how little is known about Art’s origins, Terrifier 4‘s story could reveal answers to all sorts of questions including why he’s so connected to supernatural forces, while also indicating why he started killing people at all and why he picks the victims he does. The information revealed could bring the franchise full circle.
The previous installment had the series protagonist, Sienne vowing to go all the way to hell in order to help her friend. Terrifier 4 will almost certainly work to tie Art the Clown’s origin into Sienna’s rescue mission as she tries to find a way to Hell. It might even be that Art’s origin is the exact way that Sienna can get to hell, if he’s someone who was human first and then turned into the thing that has supernatural powers at his beck and call. It can also offer a deeper dive into the forces of light and darkness seemingly dictating elements of their Sienna’s life. It could also cast both main characters in a very new light, as he path to hell might require something she hadn’t dreamed of doing before.
