Pokemon Go is celebrating the 2025 Lunar New Year, hosting their annual Lunar New Year Event again this year. This year’s Lunar New Year Event will be packed with tons of content for all players, bringing both new and returning features and bonuses to this year’s event.

This will only be a five-day event, taking place from Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at 10am local time to Sunday, February 2, 2025, at 8pm local time. Below we have included all details regarding the 2025 Lunar New Year Event; read on to learn everything you need to know to make the most of it.
Event Bonuses
There will be two bonuses available to all players during the 2025 Lunar New Year Event, both having to do with Lucky Pokemon and Lucky Friends. These two bonuses include:
- Higher likelihood of obtaining Lucky Pokemon from trades.
- Higher likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends with other players.
Wild Encounter Pokemon
During this event, there will be seven different Pokemon that will appear in the wild more frequently. Make sure to play during this event for a chance to encounter and catch the following event-themed Pokemon:
- Ekans
- Snivy
- Onix
- Darumaka
- Dunsparce
- Dratini
- Gyarados
Ekans encountered during this event will have increased odds of being Shiny.
Event 2 Km Eggs
2 km Eggs that are obtained during the days of the 2025 Lunar New Year Event will hatch specific event-themed Pokemon, replacing those that typically hatch from this type of Egg. Make sure to collect and hatch these Eggs while you can, giving you a chance to acquire one of the following Pokemon:
- Nosepass
- Makuhita
- Meditite
- Duskull
- Skorupi
Nosepass hatched from these Eggs will have increased odds of being Shiny.

Event Research
Event Field Research Tasks
During this event, all players will receive a Daily Field Research Task. Completing this Field Research Task will reward you with PokeCoins, a resource that is needed to purchase different items from the in-game shop.
Additionally, you will be able to obtain additional Event Field Research Tasks from spinning different PokeStops during this event. Completing these Field Research Tasks will reward you with Stardust and event-themed Pokemon encounters.
Event Timed Research
You will have the option of purchasing additional Timed Research for this event, costing $2.00 USD at the Pokemon Go in-game shop. Completing the tasks that come with this Timed Research will reward you with:
- Two Lucky Eggs
- One Incubator
- Ekans and Nosepass encounters
Additionally, there will be free Timed Research available to all players, unlocked just by logging in during this event. Completing this Timed Research will reward you with Stardust, XP, and 10 Zygarde Cells.
Event Collection Challenge
There will also be a Collection Challenge available to complete during this event. Catch and evolve specific event-themed Pokemon to complete this Collection Challenge, rewarding you with Stardust for doing so.
