The animated Castlevania series took a few liberties with some well-known characters from the games.
The final two episodes featured the long fight against Erzsebet Báthory and Drolta, and even though it was tough, the good guys managed to save the Earth from the eternal darkness. The final sequence of Season 2 concluded several characters’ story arcs, but it has also set up a new yet darker stage for Season 3. If you were distracted by all the spectacular fight sequences and missed some of the important story beats, here’s a quick rundown of Castlevania Nocturne Season 2’s ending.
Erzsebet Báthory Absorbs Sekhmet’s Powers To Become The Goddess
But She Couldn’t Her Hands On The Third Part Of Sekhmet’s Soul, Akh
Erzsebet was already incredibly powerful as a Vampire, but she wanted to bring back Sekhmet to the world by absorbing her powers. After Sekhmet’s death, her soul was divided into three parts: Ba (body), Ka (blood), and Akh, the good part of the Goddess’ soul. Thanks to Drolta’s efforts, Erzsebet was able to absorb two out of three parts, Ba and Ka. However, she couldn’t even get close to the good part of Sekhmet’s soul, Akh.
Fortunately, Annette was able to communicate directly with Sekhmet through Akh. Sekhmet, furious that her high priestess, Drolta, misused her powers and betrayed her trust, goes to the human world by using Annette’s body as her vessel. Even though Sekhmet (Akh) couldn’t fight Erzsebet directly, she was able to confuse the other two parts of her soul, which ultimately weakened Erzsebet. While Erzsebet tries to control Sekhmet’s Ba and Ka, Richter, Alucard, and Maria use the opportunity to attack the Vampire with all their might.
The Ultimate Team-Up To Defeat Erzsebet Báthory
Every Character Plays A Crucial Role In Defeating The Vampire
Richter always misjudged his powers and wondered if he’d be able to beat Erzsebet Báthory. But very soon, the boy realizes that he doesn’t have to carry this responsibility alone; Alucard, Maria, Juste, and Annette always stand by Richter’s side. Ultimately, it took the strength of the entire group to defeat Erzsebet Báthory and the army. While Richter and Alucard overwhelmed the Vampire with their kicks and punches, Annette and Maria used the magic to weaken the enemy.
By the end of Season 2, Maria perfected her control over the other-dimensional beasts. So, she threw all forms of beasts at Erzsebet, including the Dragon who killed Abbot. At the same time, the third part of Sekhmet’s soul, Akh, took control of Maria’s body and weakened Erzsebet through her powers. Even though Erzsebet was extremely powerful at this point, Richter and his allies were able to bring the power-hungry vampire to her knees. However, before they could kill her, Drolta intervened and flew away from the scene, carrying Erzsebet in her arms.
Drolta Finally Revealed Her True Motives
She Was Never Really Loyal To Erzsebet Báthory
From the beginning, Drolta showed unparalleled loyalty towards Erzsebet Báthory; for her, Erzsebet was always the perfect vessel for Sekhmet. After centuries of struggle, Drolta was able to feed Sekhmet’s Ba and Ka to the monstrous Vampire. However, right when Erzsebet faced defeat and was on her knees, Drolta chose to betray her.

Lovers of Castlevania Nocturne who are seeking new material should give these shows a chance.
Apparently, Drolta was never loyal to Erzsebet, and she only considered herself to be worthy of becoming Sekhmet’s vessel. So, when Erzsebet was weak following the defeat, Drolta consumed her blood (killing Erzsebet on the spot) and became Sekhmet’s vessel.
Why are you in this realm? You do not belong in that feeble mortal vessel. – Erzsebet to Sekhmet (Akh)
Carrying Ba and Ka inside her body, Drolta was way more powerful than Erzsebet ever was. However, she never imagined her own Goddess standing against her. Drolta convinced herself that Sekhmet would want to walk among humans once more and be worshiped again; however, she couldn’t be more wrong. In her final moments, Drolta almost loses her will to fight after being called an “Unclean thing” by Sekhmet (Akh), the Goddess she loved from all her heart.
Richter’s Power-Up Ultimately Saves The Day
He Defeats Drolta and Helped Annette Find Her Way Back Home
When Drolta is weakened, Sekhmet (Akh) comes forward to claim back two parts of her soul. However, there’s a catch: three parts of Sekhmet’s soul will have to reunite in Annette’s body. Annette can’t hold Sekhmet’s three souls inside her body, and like any other mortal being, she will die if that happens. In short, Annette can never return from the other dimension to the human world, and her soul will be trapped there forever.
Even after realizing that he will lose Annette, Richter lets Sekhmet (Akh) absorb Ba and Ka from Drolta’s body. However, while holding Annette’s lifeless body in his arms, he calls for his soulmate. Richter finally confesses his love to Annette, and upon hearing Richter’s voice, Annette gives her everything to escape the other-dimensional beast and return to her body.
But now, I can’t imagine the world without you, Annette. Any of it. – Richter
Richter never truly realized his true purpose; he wasn’t even sure if he was worthy of carrying the Belmont name. The trauma of losing her mother was too great to let go of easily. However, upon finding his soulmate, Annette, Richter finally embraces his magical prowess. In a rageful moment, Richter takes Alucard’s sword and enhances its power through magic. He also gets a significant boost in his strength and speed. While Alucard takes a backseat, Richter overwhelms Drolta and defeats her once and for all.
The Finale Sets The Stage For A Much Darker Season
Tera And Maria Could Be In The Forefront In Season 3
The biggest mystery in Season 2 of Nocturne was surely the “Old Man Coyote,” Castlevania‘s version of the Grim Reaper. We’ve seen this entity dragging Abbot’s remains into hell or some other evil dimension. This entity also follows Tera and Maria throughout the season. Even in the finale, he was seen standing behind Tera and smiling like he had some plans for the mother-daughter duo.
Maria, for a brief period in Season 2, lost her way and used her interdimensional powers to kill Abbot. She’s the only person who is efficient at accessing darker dimensions. Since this Grim Reaper belongs to some dark dimension, he might use Maria and Tera to do his bidding in the human world. Either that or he wants to use Maria to break barriers between dimensions so he can take over the human world. Either way, this entity and the mother-daughter duo will surely play a crucial part in Season 3, but we’ll have to wait for the next season to learn the real motive of the Grim Reaper.
