For over two decades, fans had been waiting for the Elbaf arc to finally begin, and now that this incredible story arc has begun, it is no surprise to know that Oda is slowly revealing all sorts of incredible lore pieces to the fans. Elbaf has introduced fans to some of the most exciting bits of information over the last few months and it continues to deliver one exciting lore piece after another with each passing chapter. One Piece chapter 1136 was the most significant one in this regard, as fans got to see the mention of a completely new era where the original Sun God and the warrior of liberation, Nika, existed. For the very first time, Oda has given fans a glimpse of what the original Sun God looked like.

The Original Sun God Nika And Their Origin From Elbaf

The Sun God Nika is a concept that most fans of One Piece know very well by now. He’s one of the most revered Gods of the One Piece and for good reason. First introduced in the story through the character of Who’s Who, Nika was revealed to be a deity who slaves held very close to their hearts. When Who’s Who was thrown in prison for his failure to safeguard the Gomu Gomu no Mi, he was mockingly asked by the guard to pray to the Sun God for salvation. This is because all the slaves in the Holy Land of Marijoa pray to the Sun God, believing that one day, he’s going to show up and free them from their misery and release them from chains, bringing laughter and joy to their faces. Nika is said to be the Warrior of Liberation—a man who has a booming and contagious laughter—and a guy with a body of rubber who can do just about anything he wants. In combat, he’s unpredictable and his only limiter is his own imagination. He possesses the most ridiculous power in the whole world, and this is the power that Luffy currently wields through the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika.

According to Harley, our world has already been destroyed twice. — Jarul

The Elbaf arc of One Piece gave fans a lot of insight into Nika. Not only did it confirm the fact that Nika has his own personality within the fruit and it ended up choosing Luffy, but it also revealed the fact that before Luffy, there were two different Nika. The other Nika that fans know of is, of course, Joy Boy. He existed during the Void Century and was born in the splendid and the bountiful Ancient Kingdom. He was the first pirate to have ever set out to the sea and the biggest threat to the countries of the world, who eventually united to form a group known as The Alliance, in an attempt to defeat the Ancient Kingdom.

However, long before the Ancient Kingdom and Joy Boy, there existed another Nika and this one was the first and the original Sun God. Vegapunk confirmed to the fans that this Sun God had his roots in the Elbaf, meaning he was a giant that was born in this country.

The True Design Of Sun God Nika

Oda Finally Shows The Original Sun God To The Fans

Fans didn’t know whether Oda would ever showcase the design of the real Sun God Nika to them. However, One Piece chapter 1136 was absolutely significant in this regard. In the Elbaf arc of the story, fans got to see the true Sun God for the very first time. It is no surprise to know that the Sun God is well respected in the land of the Giants. He is their only deity after all. According to the ancient Giant scriptures called Harley, which seems to have multiple translations, the world of One Piece has been destroyed two times in the past. Each time the world was destroyed, the name of the Sun God Nika was invoked—meaning Nika itself is synonymous with the destruction of the world.

In times of great need, Nika always descends upon the world! – Clapp

Even then Giants of Elbaf don’t know whether Nika is the one who destroyed the world or the one who saved it. But what they do know is that whenever the world is about to change greatly, Nika always appears. This is precisely why the rulers of the world fear the appearance of Nika, as it signifies the destruction of the world order.

One Piece: Why The Sun God Will Destroy The World

The Sun God could be a destroyer. Why he might destroy the One Piece world is a mystery.

In the same chapter, through the character of Jarul, fans got to see the Sun God Nika for the very first time. The original Sun God wore nothing but a lion cloth around his waist and a sash over it, like Luffy does. He has white clouds around his neck, signifying the Nika power, as well as long white hair, much longer than that of Luffy. All his clothes are said to be white, which is something that fans are familiar with through Luffy. A massive difference between Nika and Luffy is that the original Nika carries a sword and a shield. In one hand, Nika wields a sword like a dagger, and in the other, he carries a shield—likely the Svallin Sun Shield. Just like Luffy, this Nika is hitting the same pose, and on top of that, is seen with a giant smile across his face. Clearly, this is the original Sun God that fans are eager to see more of.

It is unknown who the real Nika fought long ago, but what is clear is that his appearance was due to a catastrophe indeed. Nika only appears when the world is about to change greatly. More than that, Nika oversaw the destruction of the world twice—once through Joy Boy and once through the original Sun God. Fans already know that the World Government was responsible for the destruction of the world 900 years ago. But, no cakes have been provided as to how and why the world was destroyed long ago. Perhaps, the giant serpent that’s popular in Elbaf mythology, mentioned long ago by Dorry and Brogy, was the enemy of the real Nika. Or, it could’ve been the Sea God itself, who Imu might be a reincarnation of, just like Luffy holds the power of the Nika fruit. One thing is clear—there are many secrets that are yet to be revealed in One Piece and things continue to get more exciting.
