Amazon Games MMO New World Aeternum is about to get always-on PvP, and now we know exactly what the optional content will look like. The new PvP mode is part of limited-time Seasonal Worlds, where you can choose to play New World Aeternum with “unique rulesets” and plenty more extras. So if you fancy diving back into the MMO with a completely new experience, there’s a lot you need to know about how this PvP Seasonal World will work.
When you load up into New World Aeternum’s new PvP Seasonal World, you won’t be flagged for combat straight away. You’ll only be permanently flagged for PvP once you either reach level 15 or choose a faction – so you’ve got some time to prepare. These MMO worlds even have new gear, so there’s plenty of reasons to give it a go.
As outlined in the New World Aeternum roadmap, the theme behind Seasonal Worlds will change with every season. You can transfer a Seasonal Worlds character to a permanent world of your choice once it’s over.
Both Ethereal and Conquerors gear types will remain exclusive to Seasonal Worlds, “preventing disruption to Aeternum’s economy,” according to Amazon. The two item types incentivize risk vs. reward, as they have durability and can be dropped on death. They also have special bonuses that put them above normal items, so you’ll want to keep a hold on them.
“A primary focus for seasonal worlds is also accessibility and a respect for players’ time,” Amazon adds. “We want to put players on more equal ground while also mitigating some of the grind to engage at high levels quickly.” That’s why all player XP, weapon mastery, and tradeskill XP is up by 25%. All Ethereal and Conquerors gear can also be equipped from levels 15 and 20 respectively, so if you kill another player and grab their loot, you can have quite the competitive advantage.
“From character creation, players will be able to craft powerful Ethereal versions of weapons, armor, jewelry, and tools,” Amazon says. “These items have curated PvP-focused perks, high gear score, low level requirements, and have special perks that allow players to generate Wrathstones from specific activities.”
New World Aeternum isn’t the first MMO to have PvP-focused worlds. World of Warcraft had specific PvP servers until 2018, when they were replaced by the opt-in War Mode. Runescape also removed dedicated PvP servers back in 2011, with PvP then available in the Wilderness area.
New World Aeternum Season 7 starts on Tuesday January 21, with the PvP Seasonal World arriving at the same time. You can check out a full deep dive on the new content right here.
