Like which characters it may add and when, it seems completely unpredictable who will receive skins next in Marvel Rivals and what they may be. MCU skins are perhaps the only costumes in Marvel Rivals that seem inevitable as they’re a well of endless inspiration that NetEase could mine whenever its own marvelous source of creativity wanes, but indeed it has proven without a shadow of a doubt that it’s capable of producing remarkable skins—both faithful and iterative.
Many characters’ default designs in Marvel Rivals have a lore-entwined explanation as to why they may not be the spitting image of that icon, such as Captain America’s look depicting him as more of a rigid, futuristic action figure. Interestingly, the same creative liberties have also been taken with comic book-inspired costumes such as Jeff’s Incognito Dolphin, Magik’s Eldritch Armor, and Spider-Man’s Bag-Man Beyond. Now that the Fantastic Four is beginning to make its way into Marvel Rivals, it would be neat—if not redundant—for Spider-Man to receive a traditional Bombastic Bag-Man costume with a spare Fantastic Four bodysuit rather than civilian clothing.

Why Marvel Rivals’ Spider-Man Bag-Man Beyond Skin is Worthy of Lamentation
Spider-Man’s Bombastic Bag-Man costume is easily one of his most instantly recognizable with an equally iconic story behind it. Having just been separated from the black suit—which he finally learned was an alien substance and rid himself of with the aid of the Fantastic Four—Peter Parker dons a paper bag with eye holes cut out of it as a mask and an old Fantastic Four suit without footwear as a makeshift costume.
The icing on this suit’s design (or lack thereof) is that, unbeknownst to Peter, Johnny Storm slaps a ‘Kick Me’ sign on the back. Of course, while certainly nostalgic and instantly recognizable, the Bag-Man suit that appears in Marvel Rivals has its own look with Peter instead wearing baggy blue cargo pants, a red, hooded Empire State University collegiate jumper, and a crescent bag.
Marvel Rivals’ Bag-Man Beyond costume is actually inspired by The Amazing Spider-Man #87 (2018) and not The Amazing Spider-Man #258 (1984), which explains why Peter’s choice of clothing is different while still not being a one-to-one representation between its comic and in-game aesthetics.
To be clear, Bag-Man Beyond is a phenomenal Spider-Man skin in Marvel Rivals. The stylishly modern take on what has normally been a costume born out of humor gives the fleeting Bag-Man persona a ton of charisma while maintaining Spider-Man’s seminal red-and-blue color palette.
It’s only a disappointment, then, that it bears no resemblance to the original Bag-Man costume and has no touch of the Fantastic Four’s handiwork now that Marvel’s first family has been officially revealed. Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman are now playable roster characters in Marvel Rivals as of the launch of Season 1, Eternal Night Falls, with Thing and Human Torch arriving later in a mid-season update.
Unfortunately, it is unlikely that another lunch sack mask should follow Bag-Man Beyond because that would mean two costumes for Spider-Man would already be dedicated to Bag-Man looks. The only reason why this might be acceptable, though, is because Marvel Rivals’ Fantastic Four has a uniform white-and-blue design that is coherent between Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Thing, and Human Torch, and it would be special to see that same suit on Spider-Man so that the Bag-Man aesthetic could be immersive and canon to the game’s universe.
There’s a chance yet that Spider-Man could receive a Future Foundation skin that is hopefully congruent with skins given to the Fantastic Four. But, in the meantime, it seems fair to presume that Marvel Rivals’ Spider-Man won’t be slipping into a spandex white-and-blue suit with a ‘4’ insignia on it anytime soon, if ever.
