Dragon-type Pokemon are some of the rarest and most powerful monsters in the Pokemon TCG. If you’re a fan of the main series of Pokemon video games, then you’re familiar with the concept of pseudo-legendaries and legendary Pokemon, which frequently are Dragon-type. Some of the mightiest Pokemon in the series, like Rayquaza, possess the fabled Dragon typing.

Giratina VSTAR: Crown Zenith (Secret Rare) – $199.88
Ruling A Dark Dimension
There are dozens of gorgeous, valuable cards in Crown Zenith, but none can hold a candle to the value of its best chase card: the Giratina VSTAR secret rare.
It’s a bit difficult to fully appreciate this card through a screen, but it stands out in person.
This card experienced a significant jump in price toward the end of 2024 when most of the Pokemon TCG market launched into a new era of value. While previous highs in 2024 reached almost $140, this card’s current market price makes that valuation a thing of the past.

Rayquaza: Dragons Exalted (Secret Rare) – $226.66
The Start Of A Dragon Dynasty
Speaking of the past, let’s turn back the clocks to a simpler time when Pokemon cards were affordable, and you didn’t have to compete against bots to snag a box of the new Pokemon release. Dragons Exalted is one of the best dragon-themed sets in the TCG and is home to multiple top-tier Rayquaza cards, like this shiny version.

While MP cards can be found for $90 or so, LP copies jump into the $160 range, followed by NM copies earning a massive premium, typically selling for the market price. With clean copies becoming harder to come by, this card’s price should continue rising.

M Charizard EX: Flashfire (Secret Rare) – $395.27
Finally, A Dragon Form
If you were waiting for a Charizard sighting, then your patience has paid off thanks to this incredibly expensive Dragon-type card from Flashfire. Copies of this card in clean condition are exceptionally difficult to find, with LP cards selling for over $320 in some cases, with NM cards easily fetching the market price when they appear. If you’re looking for a more affordable copy, HP sales have sunk as low as $72.

Shinji Kanda’s Holy Grail
Turning our attention back to the modern age, we have the Giratina V from Lost Origin, the top chase card from the set, and one of the best cards from the Sword and Shield era. This card’s journey to its current market price has seen it rise from about $340 at the start of 2024 to its current market price, where it shows little signs of slowing down. While it can’t rise forever, don’t expect this card to dip far below the $500 mark, if it ever does again.
2
Rayquaza VMAX: Evolving Skies (Alternate Art Secret) – $541.15
Flying High
Evolving Skies’ most valuable cards continue to soar in value, and this beautiful Rayquaza scene is no exception, as this card once sat as the biggest chase card in the set. While the famous Moonbreon has since claimed the mantle, Rayquaza continues to enjoy an incredible amount of growth.
Raw copies of this card could be found for less than $250 in early 2024, but that valuation is long defunct, as Rayquaza now stands at roughly double that price. The future remains incredibly bright for this iconic green dragon.
1
Latias & Latios GX: Team Up (Alternate Full Art) – $1,140.87
The Love Duo Leads The Way
While all of the valuable Dragon-type chase cards thus far have touted impressive values, none of them come remotely close to the iconic Latias & Latios GX from Team Up. This card reignited a massive amount of interest in the Pokemon TCG and remains one of the most recognizable modern cards, along with Evolving Skies’ Moonbreon.
This card grew steadily in 2024, creeping up from the $700 mark to pass the $1,000 plateau by the end of the year, continuing its run up in 2025. Given the difficulty in grading this card and its high demand, it may be the first $1,500 Dragon-type modern card in the Pokemon TCG.
