In their first-ever article of this kind, they touched on various topics, including behind-the-scenes, the game’s current status, future, foundational challenges with MOBAs, matchmaking, and more.

Riot Games took to X (formerly known as Twitter), sharing a lengthy post about the State of Wild Rift, as they mentioned, “we hope to take you behind the scenes and dig deep into our philosophies and design principles.”
The game had a great start, with a good launch on October 8th, 2021, however, they couldn’t maintain the momentum. The team struggled to tackle various issues, such as gameplay styles that resonate with mobile fans, addressing quality of life basics, and more. Despite these challenges, with time devs managed to stabilize and grow the game again. They now believe, “This is the right time for Wild Rift to begin making bigger bets and not just rest on the tried-and-tested League of Legends laurels.“
With all these in mind, the team is gearing up for the future, focusing on several key objectives like fixing mobile-specific issues that hinder potential audiences from trying the game, finding solutions to foundational MOBA challenges, and improving matchmaking. The team believes, “From where we stand today, there is still a lot of work to be done before Wild Rift is ready to be lucky.”

The team aims to make the game as seamless to play as any modern mobile game by investing in key areas such as login and accounts, download and updates, and network and latency. Acknowledging issues across these aspects, the team has promised to provide more stable logins, shorter download times, fewer crashes and update issues, and lower latency in the future.
They also discussed the strengths and foundational challenges of MOBA games, providing pros and cons. To tackle the issues, the team plans to innovate new gameplay loops, redefine established progression paths, and continue to refine and evolve the Summoner’s Rift experience.
Finally, they addressed matchmaking and all the factors that contribute to a fair game. They previously released an inside look about it. The team plans to improve matchmaking, by fine-tuning the matchmaker and prioritizing faster match queues, along with a few new experimentations.
