Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Images Apparently Emerge, Could Tease Unexpected Feature

Drip, drip, drip. The Nintendo Switch 2 leaks keep coming, as this time uncofirmed images of a retail-model left Joy-Con for the upcoming console appeared online over the weekend. In addition, fans believe they’ve discovered an unexpected feature for the new Joy-Cons after poring over the pictures: mouse functionality.

The three new Switch 2 Joy-Con images popped up on Reddit over the weekend, allegedly from a Chinese factory, showcasing a black controller with a light-blue interior. VGC then reported that eagle-eyed fans believe they’ve spotted an optical sensor on the side of the Joy-Con. That would mean the controller could function like a PC mouse, offering a new method to play Switch 2 games. Supposedly, shipping data for Switch 2 also points to mouse-like functionality, per another Reddit post.

If true, Switch 2 wouldn’t be the first gaming handheld to offer mouse-like features built into the device. The Lenovo Legion Go has detachable controllers like the Switch, with the right gamepad able to function like a mouse.

Last month, a report emerged claiming that Nintendo’s upcoming system will in fact be called Switch 2. Apparently the hybrid system will utilize magnetic Joy-Cons as well, which was previously rumored for the console. It’s unknown specifically when Nintendo will officially unveil the Switch successor, though it will be before the end of March.

Switch became the second-best-selling system in US history last month with 46.6 million units sold in the region. The console surpassed PS2 after November data rolled in for Circana. However, Nintendo DS still holds the top spot.
