What to Expect From World of Warcraft in 2025

While World of Warcraft may have had a great 2024 with the launch of The War Within, 2025 also looks to be jam-packed with some exciting content. Not only can players expect to see the events of the latest expansion ramp up as the year goes on, but they will also be treated to new game modes and the grand reveal of the next chapter of Azeroth. It remains to be seen if it hits all the right notes, but as of now, it seems like World of Warcraft fans have a lot to look forward to.

Just like every year before it, players can expect a slew of exciting updates that should bring fun new content and stories to WoW‘s expansive world. Even though WoW‘s 2025 roadmap seemingly lays out everything that fans can expect, there are likely plenty more secrets in store.

The War Within Adventures Continues Throughout the Year

The Grand Return of Plunderstorm in January

World of Warcraft‘s 2025 fun is set to kick-off with the return of the popular Plunderstorm WoW event this January. Introduced last March, this event added a brand-new battle royale mode to Azeroth. Players take on NPCs and fellow fans with a slew of unique abilities and unlock all sorts of pirate-themed items in the process. This new version seems to retain what made it so popular in the first place, but with a plethora of changes, including new abilities and cosmetics. Players don’t have to wait too long to experience Plunderstorm, as it’s set to start on January 14.

Undermined Launches This Spring

While the return of Plunderstorm is exciting, the bigger upcoming release is The War Within’s first major patch, which is set to launch near the start of the year. Dubbed Undermined, 11.1 is set to bring with it a slew of new content for players to delve into. They will be treated to a brand-new raid, a new dungeon, new delves, a new renown tract, various Warband updates, and the start of The War Within’s Season 2. On top of that, there will be many new stories that will advance The War Within’s riveting narrative.

Perhaps the biggest piece of content that is coming with Undermined is the capital of the Goblin Trade Empire: Undermine. After years of it being mentioned, players will finally get to see it firsthand, and be plunged into a goblin-focused story. They will have to align themselves with one of the four major goblin Cartels, earn Renown by helping them with whatever they need, and hopefully grow closer to stopping Xal’atath’s plot in the process.

Along with this new zone comes a whole new customizable ground mount known as D.R.I.V.E. This mount will seemingly serve as the player’s primary form of transportation throughout the city’s winding streets. They will have the ability to customize it to their liking, including changing the look and actual stats. It remains to be seen just how many customization options this vehicle actually has, but so far, it looks to be a nice addition to WoW‘s mount collection.

11.2 is Eyeing a Summer Release

The War Within’s second major patch is then set to launch sometime in the summer. Much like almost every major patch before it, this update will introduce a new zone, a new dungeon, a new raid, new stories, and the start of season 3. On top of that, players can expect new world events, new open-world challenges, and Warband and Brewfest updates. Blizzard has yet to share what any of that looks like, but players will likely not have to wait too long after 11.1 launches to find out.

There are Even More War Within Updates in Store For Players

While the major patches are the most exciting, there will also be a plethora of other updates for players to check out throughout the year. Between 11.1 and 11.2, they can expect two smaller patches in the form of 11.1.5 and 11.1.7. The first patch will introduce new content called Nightfall, the grand return of Horrific Visions, and updates to Children’s Week. The second patch is set to add new stories, new content, and something known as the Turbulent Timeways.

After 11.2 launches, players can expect an additional two updates throughout fall. Nothing is really known about these updates outside the fact they will add new content, stories, and feature the game’s 21st anniversary. Players will likely have to wait a little while before Blizzard is ready to share anything more specific.

The only feature Blizzard has unveiled is the hotly-anticipated introduction of Player Housing. The specifics of the feature remain a mystery, yet the potential alone is extremely exciting. As of now, it currently seems like it will serve as a pre-patch feature, as it is set to be released in the winter.

On top of all of that, there will probably be an assortment of surprises in store for World of Warcraft as the year goes on. Not only will players be treated to a new Trading Post catalog each month, but Blizzard will also introduce all sorts of new cash shop items. Additionally, the studio may continue to offer special Twitch drops, and outside the game, there will likely be new collectibles to purchase and some new novels or stories to check out. But nothing has been officially unveiled yet, so players will just have to wait and see.
