Genshin Impact has released the story teaser for Citlali, highlighting her personal struggles with immortality. Though the Natlan era has only just reached its halfway point, fan favorites have already established themselves in the Genshin Impact community. While Mavuika’s popularity was surefire, Citlali’s rise to stardom came entirely as a surprise. Though she made her first appearance during the Ignition teaser for Natlan, Citlali won the hearts of Genshin Impact players in Version 5.1 during the Archon Quest.

Part of Citlali’s appeal is her unapologetic, larger-than-life personality. She’s both a legendary shaman of Mictlan and a reader of Inazuman light novels. Though Genshin Impact‘s Citlali may not be the most polite person in Natlan, and sometimes her dynamic with Ororon can border on abuse, Granny Itzli has a big heart, a strong liver, and she deeply cares about the people in her life. These qualities have endeared Citlali to Genshin Impact fans, and she is about to become playable on January 1, 2025, in the first half of Version 5.3.

A recent Genshin Impact leak reveals that a popular 5-Star character from Fontaine could be getting a rerun on the Event Banners in Version 5.4.

In order to give players a taste of her character, Genshin Impact has released a story teaser featuring Citlali. Her love of snacks, alcohol, and light novels is highlighted as part of her daily routine, but the key theme explored in the video is immortality and the passage of time. As an accomplished shaman, Citlali’s lifespan is significantly longer than that of regular people in Natlan. Understandably, this comes with a major downside: Citlali will outlive the people she cares about. While Furina and Capitano in Genshin Impact are other examples of characters suffering from immortality, Citlali’s journey is explored through her connections with others.

As seen in the video, despite Citlali’s best efforts to be belligerent, she forms a close bond with the girl from the Masters of the Night-Wind. She keeps the girl’s graffiti up on the walls of her house, as it fades over the years. The girl, now an old woman, greets Citlali for the final time, before passing away from natural causes. Since Natlan in Genshin Impact deals with the theme of resurrection, Citlali resurrects her friend, in a way, by restoring the graffiti and keeping her in her memory.

Given the nature of story teasers, Genshin Impact players can likely expect Citlali’s Tribal Chronicle to explore these themes further. As for her gameplay, Citlali should be a great boon for most Pyro hypercarries, as she provides a significant buff to Melt damage, reduces Pyro resistance, and provides a Cryo Shield. She’s set to join Mavuika on the Event Banners for Genshin Impact Version 5.3 and will be available for players to pull until January 21, 2025.
