Merry Christmas! What has dear ol’ Saint Nick left under the tree for the Helldivers 2 community this year? Oh… that’s a giant wormhole at Meridia.
“Top astrophysicists from the Ministry of Science have convened there to closely study the Meridian Singularity,” the announcement reads, as pointed out by Reddit user Murderboi. “The Singularity is not, as many uninformed laypeople have assumed, a typical black hole.
“It is, in fact, the first observed instance of a wormhole: a tunnel in spacetime connecting two disparate points in space. Much more remains to be investigated. It is unclear if the wormhole formed recently, or if it has existed for some time already.”
Super Earth Armed Forces are currently investigating whether the wormhole is connected to the Illuminate’s sudden reappearance. They were exiled and defeated at the end of the first game, so there are a lot of unanswered questions about why they chose to rejoin the war effort after all this time.
Some speculate that the Illuminate we’re currently fighting are actually one and the same with the original, and that the wormhole has messed with time. In that case, Super Earth is fighting back against the highly-advanced alien squids in the past and present, directly connecting the two games. It’s a fun idea, at least. But others think it might be a new faction entirely.
Everyone Wants To Jump In
Give a Helldiver a hole, and they’ll gladly jump to their death. Nearly everyone wants to dive in without a second thought to find out what’s on the other side.
“I volunteer to enter the wormhole,” the top comment reads.
“So… we ARE going to go through the wormhole and LIBERATE whatever we find on the other side. Right?” one slightly over enthuastic fan wrote.
“Its alright guys I got this one,” another commenter wrote, attaching a GIF of Kratos falling off a cliff in God of War.
Whatever’s lying on the other end of that wormhole, I doubt it’s going to do Super Earth any good. But hey, at least we’ve got plenty of volunteers willing to go headfirst into the abyss.
