Sonic the Hedgehog 3 gave fans what they wanted from the start of the film franchise in 2020: Shadow. He was teased at the end of the last movie and this third one does not waste time getting him onscreen. While his origin story differs from the games, fans should be happy with Shadow’s inclusion and how Keanu Reeves portrays him.

In the rivalry between Sega’s iconic hedgehogs, the edgier Shadow has a few advantages over Sonic.
SPOILER warning for Sonic the Hedgehog 3.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 also introduces two big characters right at the end, suggesting they will be in the next entry: Metal Sonic and Amy. Will that be all or will they be joined by other Sonic villains and allies? Here are some other characters that should make it into the film franchise at some point.
7
Big The Cat
Let’s Go Fishing
- First Appearance: Sonic Adventure
Big the Cat was first introduced in Sonic Adventure as a playable character, mostly engaging in a fishing mini-game. As the name suggests, he is a giant cat with a lot of love to give. In Sonic Heroes, he is part of Team Rose which consists of Amy, Big, and Cream the Rabbit.
If Big makes it into Sonic the Hedgehog 4, then Cream should get in too as a support for Amy. It would make sense to flesh out more of Sonic’s movie world with anthropomorphic animals instead of more human characters.
6
Rouge The Bat
Go Team Dark!
- First Appearance: Sonic Adventure 2
Rouge the Bat first came into play with Sonic Adventure 2 along with Shadow. She was an ally to him and, overall, Rouge has a role in the series similar to Yuffie from Final Fantasy 7. She will support her friends but is also in it for treasure or a good heist. If Rouge makes it into Sonic the Hedgehog 4 then Omega should make it in too.

You won’t forget some of these Sonic knee slappers anytime soon.
Omega first appeared in Sonic Heroes as part of Team Dark, which consisted of Shadow, Rouge, and himself. Since Sonic has a team in the movies, Shadow needs one too, so these two should make it into Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
5
Chaos
Protector Of The Emeralds
- First Appearance: Sonic Adventure
Chaos is a term used a lot in the Sonic universe which can refer to the Chaos Emeralds or the energy built up inside Shadow. Chaos is also an entity that appeared first in Sonic Adventure. Chaos was one of the “villains” although it was only trying to protect the Chaos Emeralds from getting abused.
Chaos is an otherworldly power that serves no good or evil master, and it only has one role: To protect the Chaos Emeralds. Since the Master Emeralds were used twice in the movie universe already, it would make sense for Chaos to step in and figure out what is going on and who is abusing this power in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
4
Zavok
Master Of The Lost Worlds
- First Appearance: Sonic Lost World
Zavok is a villain who first appeared in Sonic Lost World as one of the Deadly Six. Zavok stands out as a leader because he looks like a more cartoony version of Diablo from that titular series. It would be funny to see him appear on film as a sort of cohort to Dr. Robotnik, if he is still alive in the movie universe.
In the game, Dr. Robotnik twists Zavok to his will; however, in a movie, it should be the other way around. It would be more fitting for a devilish creature to have Dr. Robotnik do something he doesn’t want to in Sonic the Hedgehog 4.
3
Scratch And Grounder
Reawaken The Adventure
- First Appearance: Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog
Scratch and Grounder are from the animated adaptation of the franchise, Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. They were Dr. Robotnik’s robotic sidekicks who were not good at their jobs at all. 90s kids can still remember the screeching sound of Scratch’s voice as it haunts their nightmares.
Scratch and Grounder shouldn’t become redeemable villains in Sonic the Hedgehog 4. They should instead be placed in the movie as one-off jokes that Team Sonic disposes of swiftly and moves on from as a small nod to this classic cartoon.
2
Princess Elise
A Bad “Romantic” Joke
- First Appearance: Sonic the Hedgehog (2006)
Adding Princess Elise to Sonic the Hedgehog 4 would be a fun one-off joke as well. She appeared as a friend/love interest to Sonic in 2006’s Sonic the Hedgehog. Fans don’t remember this early Xbox 360 title fondly for a few reasons, one of them being Princess Elise kissing Sonic.

Can you wait to get answers until 2027?
There could be a simple scene in Sonic the Hedgehog 4 wherein Sonic has to help a random girl named Elise with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. When he gets in close, she could slap him and say “Ew” before getting up. That’s probably what should have happened in Sonic the Hedgehog too.
1
AiAi
Extend The Sonic Universe
- First Appearance: Super Monkey Ball
AiAi is the main character from the Super Monkey Ball franchise. It’s another big series from Sega not tied to Sonic’s at all, but Sonic characters have appeared in their games before. Sega doesn’t have to rush Paramount into anything quickly but it would be fun to see more Easter Eggs in the Sonic films from other Sega series.
For example, in Sonic the Hedgehog 3, there’s a joke about Samba de Amigo in the Chao Garden restaurant in Japan. AiAi would be fun to see in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, along with maybe Ecco the Dolphin and perhaps even Bayonetta could appear in some capacity.
