Being one of the fan-favorite characters since the Honkai Star Rail‘s release, Tingyun joins the playable roster as a 5-star Nihility character under the name of Fugue, following a trend similar to Dan Heng’s transformation into Imbibitor Lunae or the upcoming alternate version of Herta. While Fugue has shifted her path and element, she retains a relatively support-oriented role, though this time she caters more to Break DMG-oriented teams involving characters like Firefly, Rappa, or Boothill. This shift makes her build fundamentally different from other Fire Nihility units like Jiaoqiu or Guinaifen, who serve distinct roles within team compositions.

Leveling up characters is a key component of most JRPGs that rewards players the more they grind and enhances character customization.
This divergence is also evident in her light cone options, as Fugue benefits from a unique, albeit somewhat limited, selection of choices. Fortunately, players will find that some accessible F2P options align well with her needs, making it feasible to build her effectively without necessarily relying on her signature light cone in Honkai: Star Rail.

Increases the wearer’s Effect Hit Rate by 40%. When the wearer attacks enemies that have reduced DEF, regenerates 8 Energy. |
Effect Hit Rate isn’t as critical for Fugue as it is for some other characters, but maintaining around 60-70% Effect Hit Rate is still valuable to ensure she can reliably apply DEF reduction to high-level enemies. For players looking for an entirely F2P option, Before the Tutorial Mission Starts is an excellent choice for those not wanting to invest heavily in Fugue, while also avoiding the need to equip an Effect Hit Rate main stat body relic.
With sufficient Effect Hit Rate, Fugue will be able to consistently apply DEF reduction and generate energy on her own. However, its worth noting that this light cone doesn’t provide any additional team utility, which puts it lower than other options in this list.

Fermata

Increases the wearer’s Break Effect by 32%, and increases their DMG to enemies afflicted with Shock or Wind Shear by 32%. This also applies to DoT. |
A slightly better F2P option for Fugue is Fermata, as it provides the Break Effect stat, which Fugue needs at around 220% or more to maximize her support potential. Equipping Fermata helps alleviate the need to focus too heavily on reaching this threshold through relic sub-stats. However, the second part of Fermata’s effect isn’t particularly useful for Fugue, as she’s not typically paired with DoT-oriented characters like Kafka or Black Swan. Instead, she excels in teams with Hypercarry units, where her focus is on enhancing Break DMG rather than DoT synergy.

Solitary Healing

Increases the wearer’s Break Effect by 40%. When the wearer uses their Ultimate, increases DoT dealt by the wearer by 48%, lasting for 2 turn(s). When a target enemy suffering from DoT imposed by the wearer is defeated, regenerates 6.0 Energy for the wearer. |
Solitary Healing is relatively on par with Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat in terms of Fugue’s own damage potential, particularly due to its increase in Break Effect. However, since it doesn’t provide direct benefits to the team DMG, it falls behind Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat (S5) in Hypercarry team compositions. That said, Solitary Healing can still be a worthwhile option for those seeking a strong F2P choice, especially as a great stat stick due to its higher stats as a 5-star light cone.

When the wearer hits an enemy and if the hit enemy is not already Ensnared, then there is a 100% base chance to Ensnare the hit enemy. Ensnared enemies’ DEF decreases by 16% for 1 turn(s). |
While not entirely F2P like the previous options on the list, Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat is the best 4-star light cone for Fugue, especially if players can max superimpose it. This light cone offers additional team benefits by further decreasing enemies’ defense and applying a unique debuff, which can be useful in certain situations. However, if players don’t have it at S5, it may still be more beneficial to focus on the F2P options mentioned earlier.

Long Road Leads Home

Increases the wearer’s Break Effect by 60%. When an enemy target’s Weakness gets broken, there is a 100% base chance to inflict the “Charring” state on it, which increases its Break DMG taken by 18%, lasting for 2 turn(s). This effect can stack 2 time(s). |
Being Fugue’s signature light cone, Long Road Leads Home is undoubtedly her best option. However, it isn’t as essential as some light cones are for other characters, like Acheron or Boothill. This is because its primary benefits are additional Break Effect and some team-wide buffs. These buffs, while useful, aren’t as significant as those provided by Resolution Shines As Pearls of Sweat, meaning players are generally better off focusing on Fugue’s eidolons if they wish to invest in her further, or saving resources to pull for upcoming characters.
