- Old Amber now crucial for Aerodactyl ex decks, repurposing its function in the META game.
- Mythical Slab considered valuable for its disruption and acceleration of Psychic Evolution.
- Pokemon Flute, despite limitations, stands out as the most effective disruptive Item Card.
With the release of the Mythical Island expansion, Pokemon TCG Pocket now has three more Item Cards—well, technically, two, as one was already included in the Genetic Apex pack. The question on some players’ minds is which of these Item Cards is worth the grind. Are any of them worth the precious Pack Points? More importantly, will any of these Item Cards replace the current META Trainer Cards in Pokemon Pocket? We’ve ranked every Item Card in the Mythical Island expansion to help players answer these questions and prioritize the one that best suits their needs.

These full art cards in Pokemon Pocket deserve the trophy for the most exquisite designs in the current expansion pack, Genetic Apex.

Old Amber
The Good Old Sabrina Counter with a New Twist
- Rarity: 2-Diamond
- Text: Play this card as if it were a 40-HP Basic Colorless Pokemon. At any time during your turn, you may discard this card from play. This card can’t retreat.
Old Amber was introduced in the Genetic Apex expansion alongside the other eight Item Cards in the pack. In the post-Mythical Island metagame, Old Amber functioned like other Fossil Item Cards, typically used to counter Sabrina or as a placeholder in the Active Spot to evolve something on the Bench. However, one card in the Mythical Island expansion has the potential to change the game for Old Amber: Aerodactyl ex.
A major release in the Mythical Island expansion, Aerodactyl ex brings incredible tech utility. This Stage One Pokemon, which evolves from an Old Amber, can stop the opponent’s Active Pokemon’s Evolution. Essentially, the Mythical Island update has repurposed Old Amber, turning it into a necessary Evolution piece for Aerodactyl ex decks. With Aerodactyl ex expected to gain popularity in the metagame, players should anticipate more Old Amber cards showing up on the board and recognize them as a strategic indicator, not just a deck preparation for Sabrina.
The addition of Aerodactyl and its synergy with a Fossil Item Card suggests that more Stage 1 Pokemon, which can evolve from Helix, Dome, and Amber, will be introduced in the game.

Mythical Slab
A Niche Item Card That’s Perfect for Alakazam
- Rarity: 2-Diamond
- Text: Look at the top card of your deck. If that card is a Psychic-Type Pokemon, put it into your hand. If it is not a Psychic-Type Pokemon, put it on the bottom of your deck.
The Oreo-looking new Item Card of Pokemon Pocket, Mythical Slab, is a two-bladed drop. On the one hand, it can accelerate some Evolutions. On the other, it can disrupt the game by changing the draw order. If everything goes well, Mythical Slab helps you draw a Psychic Pokemon—hopefully the one you need. If things go wrong, it could place a non-Psychic card like Sabrina at the bottom of the deck, making it harder to draw.
Normally, this RNG-influenced effect would push Mythical Slab down the list. However, due to the dominance of Psychic cards like Mewtwo ex and Alakazam in the current META, it’s considered one of the better Item Cards from the Mythical Island expansion. The risk of RNG can be minimized if the hand already contains key cards and when the risk of shuffling the top card is acceptable.
Despite Mythical Slab’s interference with drawing other cards, players should note that the deck will be shuffled throughout the game, which also helps minimize the Slab’s negative effect.

Pokemon Flute
An Excellent Disruption Card
- Rarity: 2-Diamond
- Text: Put a Basic Pokemon from your opponent’s discard pile onto their Bench.
Pokemon Flute resurrects an enemy card from the discard pile onto the Bench, offering a disruptive effect that can be incredibly useful when the opponent struggles to draw the necessary card and has empty slots on their Bench. For instance, If their weak Pokemon gets knocked out and only one remains in the Active Spot, Pokemon Flute can move the weak Pokemon to the Bench. Then, the Active Pokemon can be Sabrina-ed to bring the revived Pokemon back to the Active Spot, making it easy to knock out again.
However, the downsides of Pokemon Flute are: 1) existing META Item Cards leave limited space for its inclusion, and 2) it only works when the opponent has at least one empty Bench slot and one Basic Pokemon in the discard pile. If the opponent keeps their Bench full, Pokemon Flute becomes unplayable. Still, Pokemon Flute stands out as the best Item Card in the Mythical Island pack due to its potential for more devastating disruption compared to other cards like Red Card.
