Spider-Man 4 Script Gets A Thumbs Down From Kevin Feige

Spider-Man 4 Script Gets A Thumbs Down From Kevin Feige

Summary

  • Tom Holland returns for Spider-Man 4, but the script is not yet ready.
  • Kevin Feige reportedly didn’t like the script, so they had to redo it.
  • The writers are reportedly “rewriting” the script and “changing everything.”

Tom Holland will return for another Spider-Man movie for the fourth time. However, according to recent reports, Spider-Man 4 is making slow progress in terms of its script.

Holland’s portrayal of the web-slinger superhero was very well-received. He has since appeared in multiple movies from the MCU, including Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). He was initially signed up to star in a standalone trilogy — Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017), Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) — but fans and the people from Sony and Marvel were so happy that they asked him to return for a fourth movie. However, recent reports gave a disappointing update about Spider-Man 4.

Marvel Reportedly Has a Big Plan For This Actor’s Spider-Man And It’s Not Tom Holland’s

Sony wants to give this former Spider-Man actor more exposure in the upcoming Marvel movies and it’s not Tom Holland.

Movie insider MyTimeToShineHello shared some updates about Spider-Man 4 on X, formerly Twitter. According to the scooper, Holland liked the the story, but Kevin Feige, the Marvel Studios President, wasn’t as impressed. Thus, the script reportedly needs to be redone, which is not a problem as production is scheduled to start in the middle of next year. So, they still have time to work on it. They are “now rewriting it and changing everything. The script isn’t ready yet and won’t be for a while,” the insider claimed.

It’s not the first time the people involved in the project couldn’t agree on its storyline. Previous reports claimed that Feige and Tom Rothman, Chairperson of Sony Pictures Entertainment, also clashed about the movie’s narrative being street-level or multiverse. Feige allegedly wanted to reduce the multiverse element in the next film and focus more on Spider-Man‘s adventures. However, Rothman allegedly argued and wanted to capitalize on the success of No Way Home, which highlighted the multiverse. Spider-Man 3 paved the way for Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield to return in their Spider-Man suits. The trio appeared on the big screen for the first time and fans loved it. Many even wanted another Spider-Man reunion, which was probably what Rothman aimed to satisfy. Despite the disagreement, both studios had reportedly settled to write Spider-Man 4 with an “Avengers-level event” combined with some multiversal elements.

Spider-Man is one of the most successful franchises in the MCU, so it’s understandable why Feige is meticulous in its script. Fans are expecting so much from them and have been supportive of the franchise; no wonder they’re now working on the fourth film. Since the production is still months away, the change in the script may not affect the timeline, especially since both studios have already agreed on what they want for the film.

There are a lot of promising narratives for Spider-Man 4. Peter Parker‘s identity is now a secret, and his connection to the Avengers has diminished, so the movie could focus on his role as a street-level hero, giving the film more personal storytelling. Since the superhero is now on his own without the support from Tony Stark/Iron Man and Doctor Strange, he could potentially team up with other Marvel characters like Daredevil (Matt Murdock) or the Human Torch to expand his narrative and connection within the MCU. Although a street-level storyline is great, there is no doubt that fans love the multiverse and want to see more crossovers.

Spider-Man 4 will hit theaters on July 24, 2026.
