Although horror enthusiasts heard back in 2022 that there would be a Friday the 13th prequel TV series called Crystal Lake, slasher fans have been hoping to find out when they can see the infamous villain Jason Voorhies again. But now, as JoBlo reported, the showrunner has shared a brief update.
Brad Caleb Kane posted on Instagram that “scripts have been and are being written,” which is definitely good news. Kane wrote:
“Wish I could give a more substantial update but mum’s the word. Suffice it to say the story’s been broken, scripts have been and are being written and the goal is to give the fans (including myself) a tense, scary, bloody and satisfying ride that’s well worth the wait. More news to come in the new year. Unless, y’know… we’re all doomed.“

The Mummy is getting a remake, and fans of the original ’90s movie starring Brendon Fraser will want to hear all about this new/old monster.
In August 2024, Deadline reported that Kane took over as showrunner of the Crystal Lake series. Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller left in May 2024 and said, “A24 has elected to go a different way with the material.” Kane is writing, directing, and executive producing the show.
The Friday the 13th TV series is a prequel that will stream on Peacock, and even after watching all 10 movies in the franchise, fans are always happy to see more Jason. With his memorable hockey mask devoid of any and all emotion, Jason is one of the best slasher killers. Since Crystal Lake is a prequel, fans can guess that they will learn more about what happened to Jason before he arrived at the infamous summer camp.
Kane is working on two horror prequel series as he’s also the showrunner on the Pennywise series It: Welcome to Derry, which will be released on HBO Max. It will be exciting to watch these origin stories of two of the most iconic villains in the genre. Like Pennywise, Jason is an otherworldly figure who doesn’t always seem human, and he is an absolutely brutal killing machine. While the creepy clown targets kids in the sewers of a small town in Maine and Jason hangs around at Camp Crystal Lake, the villains are both so eerie-looking that no one could forget them.
According to TV Line, final girl Adrienne King suggested that the show could come out in 2024, that didn’t happen. There is no release date as of now, but several publications have wondered if it could be released in 2025. Whenever Crystal Lake is released on Peacock, horror fans will be ready to see the evil Jason Voorhies.
