Seong Gi-hun, player 456 (played by Lee Jung-jae)
Well, having Seong Gi-hun as the main character was pretty obvious. He is the only player in the history of Squid Games to win the competition and come out safely from the remote island. As a result, he knows what happens down there and what is at stake. For Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, Season 2 is all about taking revenge and bringing the sinister organization down. Trailers have already made it clear that he is joining the game once again to lead a rebellion against the Frontman and his workers. Additionally, he wants the Squid Games to end and that’s the only thing keeping him motivated. Meanwhile, Jung-jae believes that viewers will see a complete transformation in his character who is determined to finish this story.
Will Seong Gi-hun be able to lead a successful rebellion against the Frontman? It sure isn’t easy because of the nature of the game, but it can still be achieved.
The Frontman (played by Lee Byung-hun)
Just like Gi-hun, The Frontman is another character who is poised to play a pivotal role in Season 2, as his enigmatic past and motivations are key to unraveling the mysteries of the deadly games. The first edition hinted at his complex history, particularly through his connection with his brother. In the upcoming season, the unresolved storyline between him and his brother opens the door for a deeper exploration of his character, shedding light on how he became the Frontman and what drives his loyalty to the organization. Moreover, it would be fascinating to see the relationship between Gi-hun and the Frontman, and how the mastermind behind the games will react when Player 456 enters the game again.
It has already been established that The Frontman wants to show Gi-hun that there is no good left in this world and break his conviction. With his dual role as both antagonist and a man with moral struggles, the Frontman promises to elevate the stakes and intrigue in Season 2.
Jun-Ho (played by Wi Ha-jun)
Jun-Ho might be the most interesting character in Season 2 because of the relationship he shares with The Frontman. For the uninitiated, the character, who is a police officer, is a brother to The Frontman and learns about his identity in the concluding moments of the first edition. Although Season 1 didn’t end in a good way for him, Jun-ho is eager to return to the mysterious island and talk to his brother about everything he has been doing on the island. Moreover, he is still not ready to let go of what happened between him and his brother on the island. It’s a miracle that Jun-ho is still alive, and he will seize this opportunity to find the mysterious island and confront his brother.
The Recruiter (played by Gong Yoo)
The Recruiter was the first character audiences get to see from the sinister organization in Season 1 and he sets the tone for the deadly games in motion. In the modern world, The Recruiter can be identified as the Outreach Specialist, who wanders the streets of South Korea and expands the reach of the dangerous competition. It would be interesting to see what kind of role he plays in the upcoming edition because the competition is about to begin again and the organization is looking for new players. Correspondingly, his much-awaited confrontation with Gi-hun would be a sight to behold.
Also, fans might get to hear about his backstory as well and how he became such a prominent figure in the Squid Game.
Myung-gi, Player 333 (played by Yim Si-Wan)
Myung-gi, also known as Player 333, is one of the new competitors in the game. He was formerly a YouTuber and lost a lot of money after becoming a victim of a Crypto scam. The aforementioned player has become a fugitive after causing significant losses to his subscribers. But now, he has returned and decided to take part in the game to earn money and recover his lost identity.
Jun-Hee, Player 222 (played by Jo Yu-Ri)
Player 222 is an independent and persistent individual who has simply joined the Squid Game to earn a living. Interestingly, she is the ex-girlfriend of YouTuber Myung-gi and reportedly lost her earnings because of a piece of bad financial advice given by the aforementioned YouTuber. So, it seems Myung-gi would have to tackle her as well.
Yong-Sik, Player 007, and Geum-Ja, Player 149 (played by Yang Dong-Jeun and Kang Ae-Sim)
Like everyone, Yong-Sik is also in huge debt, thanks to his shameless gambling problem, making him a perfect contestant for the Squid Game. However, there’s a catch and as soon as he enters the game, he finds out that his mother, Geum-Ja, has also entered the competition to win the bumper prize. It would be interesting to see how the mother-son duo performs in the games and if they will work as a team or if something terrible happens between them. The addition of a mother-son pair in the games will be fascinating to see during the games.
Jung-Bae, Player 390 (played by Lee Seo-Hwan)
If Jung-Bae sounds familiar to you, then you have seen Season 1 of Squid Game with keen eyes. Jung-Bae is the friend of the show’s main character, Gi-Hun, and fans have seen him for a brief amount of time in the show’s previous edition. However, in Season 2, viewers will get to see more camaraderie between them because both of them will be a part of the competition.
Dae-Ho, Player 388 (played by Kang Ha-Neul)
Player 388 is probably one of the strongest contestants in the game because of his personality and profession. He was an ex-Marine and appears to be a macho guy who knows how to survive in difficult situations, making him a force to be reckoned with.
Hyun-Ju, Player 120 (played by Park Sung-Hoon)
This is a historical moment for the series as a Transgender character is being introduced in the upcoming season of Squid Game. Park Sung-Hoon will be seen playing the character of Hyun-Ju, a former special forces soldier and a Transgender woman, who has joined the game to garner money for her gender-affirming surgery. For Hyun-Ju, it is all about breaking stereotypes and shining as an inspiring character.
Squid Game Season 2 premieres exclusively on Netflix on December 26, 2024.

Which Squid Game Death Was the Most Heartbreaking?
Honestly, I’d say the marble game in itself was absolutely heartbreaking. I was ugly crying my whole way through that episode as characters such as Ji-yeong, Ali, and Il-nam (at the time, before we knew he was involved with the games) faced death through sacrifice for the other player, manipulation, and everything in between.
