Genshin Impact Players Are Frustrated With Unmarked Quests

Summary

  • Genshin Impact layers are frustrated with unmarked quest.
  • These lock players into dialogue, cutscenes, and quest chains until the quests are complete.
  • Players hope for this to be addressed in future updates, but it’s unclear if any changes will be made.

Genshin Impact players have grown frustrated with unmarked quests triggering unprompted during challenge events or open world exploration. While the developers have introduced a plethora of quality-of-life changes to Genshin Impact, there are still a few gameplay quirks that annoy the community. Notably, Genshin Impact still has Talent and Weapon materials split on a three-day rotation. While it does make the Domains feel less overwhelming, many fans have ultimately come to the conclusion that the format is more trouble than it’s worth.

That being said, Genshin Impact has done its best to curb the more frustrating aspects of its gameplay. The modern Genshin Impact experience features Artifact crafting, an increased Resin cap, and a way to track Local Specialties in any region. Even the gacha side of the game was recently overhauled in favor of players, as the Weapon Banner in Genshin Impact had its Fate Point requirements reduced by half, and Event Banners introduced Capturing Radiance to prevent unlucky 50:50 streaks.

Genshin Impact fans are dissatisfied with the recent Special Program announcement about the upcoming character releases in update 5.3.

However, as demonstrated by skee_21 on the Genshin Impact subreddit, triggering unmarked quests can easily ruin a player’s gameplay experience. While doing challenges and collecting chests in the overworld, it has become common for players to trigger an unmarked quest, leading them into a long conversation (and subsequent quest chain) that cannot be skipped, abandoned, or reset. Some of these quests in Genshin Impact have stealth elements, which can also lock players out from interacting with their co-op friends.

Genshin Impact Players Want Changes Made to Quests

From a gameplay standpoint, NPCs and characters in Genshin Impact can only be in one place at a time. If two separate quests require the presence of the same character, one of the quests effectively has its progress blocked. While this was frustrating to deal with at first, a recent quality-of-life change in the Fontaine era allowed Genshin Impact players to pause certain quests, and thus choose the order of how to progress through the story. While the implementation still has a few quirks, the community feels that it’s a step in the right direction.

Though some Genshin Impact players have also wished for the ability to skip cutscenes or dialogue, it is unlikely that the developers will ever change their stance in this regard. On the other hand, removing forced cutscene triggers should very much be on the table. Flagship Events in Genshin Impact have to be selected first before triggering, and should players provide enough feedback to HoYoverse, a similar logic could end up becoming the norm for World Quests going forward. Version 5.3 will introduce the final Act of Natlan’s story and will also feature the Lantern Rite. It is set for launch on January 1, 2025.
