You can grab the Dark and Darker $30 premium upgrade for free right now, but you’ve got to be incredibly fast. Developer Ironmace added a free version of the extraction game earlier this year, and now in collaboration with the Epic Games Store, you can grab the permanent premium upgrade entirely for free. There’s a catch though, and it’s a pretty big one, as you’ve now got less than 24 hours to claim the upgrade before the offer disappears.
If you’re yet to jump into Dark and Darker, it’s worth understanding exactly how the Legendary Status upgrade works. Dark and Darker is a free-to-play, early-access extraction RPG, but for $30 / £23.25, you can upgrade your account. This purchase is a permanent upgrade, and comes with plenty of bonuses for new or seasoned players.
To start, the upgrade unlocks High Roller dungeons for you. These levels are based on a high-risk and high-reward system, and are the only place you can get Unique level loot. These dungeons are much harder than any you’ll find in the free version, but perfect if you want to come out with better items.
You also have nine character slots instead of just one, so you can experiment with a multitude of different builds and playstyles. You also get a shared stash, which is an extra space to store loot that can be exchanged between all of the premium edition’s new characters.
Perhaps the biggest feature is the Trading Post. With Legendary Status you can sell looted items on the marketplace. Keep in mind that you’ll have to wait 72 hours after activating Legendary Status for this feature to unlock, however. That’s enough time to fill up your stash at least.
Keep in mind that Dark and Darker Season 5 just dropped as well, meaning plenty of players are returning to the game to see what’s on offer. Not only have all characters been reset, but there are plenty of new systems in the fantasy extraction game. The new random dungeon system makes crypts even more interesting to explore, with Ironmace planning to introduce the mechanic into more dungeon biomes over time. There’s also the continuous matchmaking system – so you can now join a dungeon that’s already in progress – and a new sorcerer class, and an item socket feature.
Normally, the premium edition of Dark and Darker is $30, but if you act fast, you can now get it for free. Just be aware: if you’ve already purchased Legendary Status on another platform, getting it again gives you no additional bonuses and simply acts as a duplicate purchase.
The Dark and Darker Legendary Status upgrade is available on the Epic Games Store for free, but keep in mind that you only have until Tuesday December 24 at 8am PT / 11am ET / 4pm GMT and Wednesday December 25 at 3am AEDT to redeem the enhancement. You can grab the upgrade here.
