Tempest Flurry Invoker Leveling Build for Path of Exile 2

The Invoker Ascendancy for the Monk in Path of Exile 2 is great for players who want to lean into Cold and Lightning damage skills, and for anyone who’s looking to use the Tempest Flurry skill, there are a number of ways to elevate that skill with the Invoker’s passives.

The following is a leveling and early endgame guide for the Invoker Monk with Tempest Flurry designed for smooth clears, high Lightning damage, infinite Power Charge generation, and ailment affliction in Path of Exile 2. It will take a while before the full build can go online, but once it does, it’ll be hard to put down.

Tempest Flurry is a Level 5 skill, so until you can get it, stick with your basic Quarterstaff attack, Falling Thunder, and Tempest Bell. Replace the basic attack with Tempest Flurry, and you’ll be good to go until the late game. By level 31 or so, your skill bar should contain the following:

Notes

Tempest Flurry

  • Martial Tempo
  • Electrocute
  • Rage

Main DPS skill. Electrocute is necessary to maintain infinite Power Charges.

Falling Thunder

  • Ambush
  • Perpetual Charge
  • Combo Finisher

Use to clear large groups or to burst down big enemies with Combo Finisher.

Charged Staff

  • Persistence
  • Innervate
  • Primal Armament
  • Conduction

The build’s actual source of damage. Maintain this buff at all times.

Tempest Bell

  • Concentrated Effect
  • Overabundance

The Monk’s go-to boss killer.

Herald of Thunder

  • Cold Infusion
  • Ice Bite

Lightning bolts will also freeze enemies with Cold Infusion equipped, fueling Power Charge generation.

Combat Frenzy

  • Profusion

Grants Frenzy Charges every time an enemy is Frozen, Electrocuted, or Pinned. Use with Resonance Passive for Power Charge generation.

How to Generate Power Charges

As mentioned above, the build’s main source of Power Charges will be Combat Frenzy and Resonance together with Cold Infused Herald of Thunder and Electrocute Tempest Flurry. Resonance converts any Frenzy Charge you gain into Power Charges, and since you’ll be freezing and electrocuting everything with this build, you’ll be gaining a ton of Power Charges in every fight thanks to both of those PoE 2 crowd control effects.

Alternatively, you can just use Profane Ritual and skip the Frenzy/Resonance combo. You can pair this with either Cast on Shock or Cast on Freeze for automatic Power Charge generation. During lower levels, use either Killing Palm or Siphoning Strike to generate charges for Falling Thunder.

Once you get additional Spirit for your build, you can equip Herald of Ice for more freeze potential.

Tempest Flurry Invoker Passives

The Invoker's Ascension passives in PoE 2

For passives, prioritize getting nodes that improve Lightning damage, Shock chance, Attack damage, and Attack Speed. If you’re having trouble, get some nodes that restore your health or improve Energy Shields and Evasion.

A safe bet is to take the early Monk nodes that increase Lightning damage and Shock chance, then go right to the Quarterstaff passive cluster. Take Resonance only when you’re ready to use Combat Frenzy.

Good major passives to take for this build are:

  • Flow Like Water
  • Essence of the Storm
  • Alternating Current
  • Blinding Strike
  • Tenfold Attacks
  • Shattering
  • One with the River
  • One with the Storm

There’s no particular order as to which passives you get first, but we suggest pathing toward Resonance. Save the Quarterstaff cluster for late game progression.

Ascendancy

Once you get your first four Ascension points in PoE 2, take both I Am Thunder and I Am Blizzard passives first. This helps keep you topped up on Power Charges while increasing your damage and CC potential against enemies. Later on, you can take either And I Shall Rage for burning bosses with Unbound Avatar, or Sunder my Enemies for stronger critical hits.

A rare Quarterstaff in PoE 2

This build focuses on Elemental damage and Ailments. As such, you’ll want to get a Quarterstaff with good base DPS as well as either Cold or Lightning damage (preferably both). For survivability, get armor pieces with Evasion and Energy Shield, so you can take advantage of relevant passive nodes should the need arise. You’ll want to get Dexterity and Intelligence anyway, so gear that would require Strength is simply a no-go. To summarize, look for gear with the following stats:

  • Physical damage
  • Lightning damage added to attacks
  • Cold damage added to attacks
  • Attack Speed
  • Accuracy Rating
  • Maximum Life
  • Evasion
  • Energy Shields
  • Elemental resistances.
