Chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) currently offers the world’s fastest gaming CPU for desktops bar none: the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. It also has made significant efficiency and productivity gains as part of its new Zen 5 core endeavor, even as AMD has only released five actual CPUs in the desktop segment: the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, Ryzen 7 9700X, Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Ryzen 9 9900X, and the flagship Ryzen 9 9950X.
AMD’s CES 2025 announcement is expected to build on that list considerably, with most speculation and partner-induced leaks all but confirming the existence of two higher-core Ryzen 9000 X3D CPUs. However, AMD might also have a less pricey CPU in play for gamers, power users, and professionals on a budget looking to get a new Ryzen 9000 series upgrade at the start of 2025.

The AMD Ryzen 5 9600X’s Non-X Sibling
While most guides currently recommend going for the AMD Ryzen 5 7500F, Ryzen 5 7600, Ryzen 5 7600X, or even the Ryzen 7 7700X over the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, that might be about to change as the Ryzen 5 9600X gets a cheaper non-X sibling late Jan. This is based on reports from X (formerly known as Twitter) user and credible semiconductor leaker, “AnhPhuH” in a tweet which states “R5 9600 Late Jan”. This is in addition to previous predictions from the same leaker indicating a release-heavy Jan 2025 schedule for AMD.
Other leaks include an as-yet-unnamed 12-core and a 16-core Ryzen 9000 X3D CPU from earlier in November, as well as a correct leak on a $30 price markup generation on generation from the Ryzen 7 7800X3D to the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. While details are sparse, the leaker also indicated that a 65W TDP is expected for the Ryzen 5 9600 CPU, leaving it unchanged from the Ryzen 5 9600X that sports the same number.

AMD’s Rumored Ryzen 9 9000 Series X3D CPUs Revisited
While AMD’s Ryzen 9 9000 series X3D CPUs are all but confirmed if the nomenclature holds versus previous generation releases, details are relatively sparse on both clock speeds and TDP, which does raise questions from users even as the leaker has indicated that the same amount of 3D V-Cache is expected to be present this generation for AMD’s higher-end CPUs.
With the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D commanding a $30 price increase versus the Ryzen 7 7800X3D’s MSRP, a lot of speculation in particular focuses on the pricing of what should be AMD’s highest-end consumer-grade CPUs this generation. With the Ryzen 7 9800X3D out of stock at most retail locations and being scalped heavily at 3rd party retailers, both CPUs would arrive in a market that is hungry for Zen 5-based X3D CPUs this January.
