It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas in Dota 2 as Frostivus lands in-game. The (usually) annual winter Dota 2 event was release late yesterday (Dec. 18) evening, unveiling new content, new features, and a whole host of seasonal cheer, much to the surprise of the Dota 2 community.
We even predicted that the annual winter Dota 2 event wouldn’t be coming to the game. That’s because Valve has spent the last year filling Dota 2 with Crownfall content. But Frostivus is here, and here’s our guide to everything going on.
Frostivus 2024 Hats
Perhaps the biggest feature of Frostivus 2024 is the hats. For the duration of Frostivus (That’s from now until Jan. 15, 2025), each game of Dota 2 will see the heroes begin wearing a Frostivus hat. Any time you kill a hero, the Tormentor or Roshan, your defeated opponent will drop a hat that you’ll pick up. Each time you respawn, you’ll have a minimum of one hat.
Hat counts will be shown in the post-game MVP screen, and it’s hinted there’ll be rewards for collecting as many hats as possible.
The Dota 2 Frostivus Story – The Hatmarillion
Beyond just giving us hats in Dota 2, Valve took things a step further and wrote up an entire Hatmarillion story. Luckily it’s not as long as its namesake, the Silmarillion, but it gives a little context behind the strange new hat-filled world we live in.
Frostivus Forge
This is where the real meat of the update is. By completing in-game missions you can craft unique items including Seasonal Chat Wheels, new Tormentor skins, and other winter-themed rewards.
Winter 2024 Heroes’ Hoard
We’ll put together a full breakdown of the Winter 2024 Heroes’ Hoard, but this unique treasure is giving players the chance to get into the Christmas spirit with 17 new times for some of Dota’s most cheerful champions. There’s also a bonus new taunt, and a pet wolf, and a chance to grab Windranger’s Arcana.
Since this is on the Crownfall store, you can also use your Crownfall coins to get a discount
End-of-Year Ban Wave
In what’s become one of Dota 2’s most time-honored traditions, there’s also been a huge ban wave for the end of year. That means 60k less smurfs in your game. Full details on the end-of-year ban wave can be found in our article.
Dota 2 Frostivus Crownfall Winter Sale
Last but not least, there’s a sale on all things Crownfall. That means if you’re still getting ready to complete Crownfall, or if you’ve been putting off buying those Arcanas, you can pick them up now with a handy christmas discount.
Frostivus Cheer is abound in Dota 2 this season, and will continue until Jan. 15, the same day Crownfall ends. Stick with Esports.net for more Christmas spirit and Dota 2 news and guides!
