Elden Ring: Nightreign Lore Explained
Elden Ring Nightreign is shrouded in mystery, but there is still narrative information that can be gleaned from its sparse promotional content.
In an interview with IGN, FromSoftware confirmed that Elden Ring: Nightreign will not have crossplay. Similar to how Elden Ring co-op works, those on PS4 will be able to play with PS5 gamers and those on Xbox One will be able to play with those on Xbox Series X/S consoles, but PlayStation and Xbox gamers can’t play with each other. Likewise, PC gamers can only play with other PC gamers. It’s unclear exactly why this decision was made, especially since co-op seems to be a much bigger focus for Elden Ring: Nightreign than the base game.
Does Elden Ring: Nightreign Have Crossplay?
- Elden Ring: Nightreign does not have cross-platform play.
The lack of crossplay isn’t the only thing holding back Elden Ring: Nightreign‘s co-op experience. It was also confirmed that Elden Ring: Nightreign co-op will not allow duos. Those that want to play co-op must play in groups of three. There is an option for a solo mode with balance changes made with that in mind, but the team decided not to do the same for those that may want to play in a duo. It was indicated that playing in duos made the game feel too “overwhelming” and “busy,” but it’s unclear why it still couldn’t have been balanced in a way similar to the solo mode.
It will definitely be interesting to see how fans react to these co-op restrictions when Elden Ring: Nightreign launches in 2025. A specific release date for the highly-anticipated game is not yet available, but we do know that fans will have the chance to play it sooner rather than later. FromSoftware will be hosting an Elden Ring: Nightreign network test in February, with sign-ups opening on January 10. The scope of this network test has not been revealed, but one has to imagine that the game’s co-op functionality will be the main focus.
