Summary
- Sony continues to prioritize exclusive quality over quantity but seems to have found its stride with its recent release schedule.
- New PS5 exclusives like Ballad of Antara and Fairgame$ offer unique gameplay experiences and potential for success.
- Anticipated titles like Ghost of Yōtei from Sucker Punch and Project Robot from Fumito Ueda are set to impress on the PS5.
The PlayStation 5 had a promising start, with titles like Demon’s Souls and Astro’s Playroom being exclusive to the current-gen powerhouse. However, many of the other titles announced for the PS5 are cross-gen titles that aren’t exactly built from the ground up to take full advantage of the hardware.

That isn’t to say there aren’t games announced that utilize the console’s potential, but they are likely not releasing soon (aside from a select few). Fans heavily praised Sony for the quality and quantity of their exclusives on the PlayStation 4, and it seems Sony has no intentions of changing their plans for this generation.
Updated on December 15, 2024, by Seth Parmer: We have updated this list to include the newly announced exclusives, such as Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei while removing titles that were already released to keep the list up-to-date. Everything is also listed in alphabetical order to make it even easier to navigate and find what you’re looking for!

Ballad of Antara is an Action RPG Soulslike from TipsWorks that was also announced at Sony’s State of Play in May of this year. It features drop-dead gorgeous environments and visuals and exhilarating gameplay. The cherry on top is that this game will be free to play upon release.
While a free-to-play Soulslike can be a cause for pause for some people, the trailer is very promising, and its release window of 2025 gives the team even more time to provide more content that can overcome the common hurdles and shortcomings of other free-to-play titles. It is an interesting game to keep tabs on, for sure!

Shifting gears a bit from games with confirmed release dates and windows, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a title that was first revealed back in 2022 during The Game Awards and still has no confirmed release date or even a window for the year it might drop in.

However, an Artist working on the title may have leaked its 2025 release window, but that is far from official or guaranteed. While it does seem likely we will get to play it next year, there’s nothing concrete out there just yet, but we expect to see and hear more about this game at this year’s Game Awards!

Fairgame$
Revealed at a PlayStation Showcase last year, Fairgame$ is an upcoming competitive heist shooter from Haven Studios. And, aside from a random survey Sony sent out to select customers, there isn’t much else we can report on this title at the moment.
There is no release date or window for the competitive PvPvE heist shooter, nor has there been any gameplay footage or an official update from Haven Studios since its CGI reveal trailer. While it being a service title can be a bit worrying, its unique concept may give it the push needed to be a massive success when it finally releases!

Ghost of Yōtei is the next massive project from beloved developers Sucker Punch and is set to release at some point in 2025 but doesn’t have a concrete release date as of yet. It was revealed during the PlayStation State of Play in September of 2024, showcasing the stunning visuals you’d expect if you played its prequel, Ghost of Tsushima.
Featuring a new protagonist and a goal to be less repetitive in its open world, Ghost of Yōtei looks to improve on all aspects of its predecessor and is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated titles for 2025. Hopefully, Sucker Punch can hit that release window!

During the 2024 The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley closed the show with one more big announcement before handing out the prestigious Game of the Year award. This turned out the be Naughty Dog’s long-awaited new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, a space opera inspired by the likes of Akira and Cowboy Beebop.
Naughty Dog has been working on this project since 2020, but even then, there isn’t even a release year for this massive title yet, so you may not get your hands on their next title until 2026 at the earliest. Nonetheless, it’s awesome seeing Naughty Dog take a stab at something new, and we cannot wait to hear more about it!

Back in May 2023, Bungie revealed a reboot of the Marathon series as a live-service Extraction Shooter, which left many fans of the original series scratching their heads. But, if any team can pull this off, it would be Bungie, as they never miss when it comes to competitive-focused titles.

With hundreds of games to choose from, PlayStation Plus can be as daunting as it is exciting. Here are a few of our favorites.
Unfortunately, much like with Fairgame$, there has been no further update on Marathon since its initial CGI reveal, and Bungie hasn’t really followed up on it since then, either. So now we patiently wait until we see some actual gameplay, and we hope a release window comes along with it!

Marvel’s Wolverine
Few studios are as consistently solid as Insomniac, so fans were ecstatic when they surprised the world with their next project, Marvel’s Wolverine, back in 2021. Their Spider-Man titles are all well-received and exhilarating to play, and the confirmed ‘Mature Tone’ of this title gives fans nothing but confidence they will knock this out of the park, too.
Very unfortunate leaks aside, there have been zero official updates on this project from Insomniac since its official CGI reveal, which makes sense, considering Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 just released last year. Nonetheless, Insomniac has confirmed the leaks change nothing, and they are still working full-steam ahead!

S-Game
S-Game revealed Phantom Blade 0 at a PlayStation Showcase in 2023, showcasing its intense gameplay, stunning visuals, and dark aesthetic. This Action RPG Soulslike seems to be coming along nicely, as it was revealed at this year’s Summer Game Fest to have playable Demos at Gamescom in August and at Tokyo Game Show in September.
Phantom Blade 0 currently has no official release date, but S-Game seems committed to releasing it in 2024. Whether or not they hit this year remains uncertain. Overall, they seem to be cooking up a solid Soulslike, so they can take as long as they want to polish it up and deliver something special!
3
Project Robot
Project Robot is a currently untitled project from Fumito Ueda, the creator of cult classic titles such as Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. Very little is known about this title at the moment, but that’s probably for the best, as it’s best to experience these types of games firsthand with as little spoilers as possible.

Fumito Ueda’s next project was revealed for the first time at the 2024 Game Awards. However, there was no indication of a release date or window, so it may still be years out at this point. While it isn’t confirmed to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, based on Ueda’s previous releases, it’s safe to assume this won’t find its way onto the Xbox platform, but anything is possible. We guess.

Sword Of The Sea
From the developers that made ABZÛ and The Pathless, Giant Squid seems to be at it again with another breathtaking title in Sword of the Sea, which has you surf through surreal and otherworldly landscapes on the Hoversword.
If you enjoyed their previous works, Giant Squid is looking to harness the power of the PlayStation 5 to showcase their most beautiful sceneries yet, which is saying something as their previous releases are beyond stunning. The bad news, however, is there is no release date or window for this title just yet, but we’re hoping to hear more about it soon!

Where Winds Meet was first revealed at Gamescom back in 2022 and was more or less quiet until this year when it received a Beta in April. From here, it went quiet a bit longer until it was showcased even further at the PlayStation State of Play in May, complete with a release window of this year, with no concrete date.
Clearly inspired by the likes of Ghost of Tsushima and even Assassin’s Creed, Everstone Studio seems committed to delivering an action-packed open-world RPG that puts you in the heart of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms era of China. If the Beta and showcases are anything to go off of, this will be a title to keep an eye on!
