How to Beat Melchiah in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

There are many difficult video game bosses, but sometimes a boss doesn’t even pose much of a challenge. Such is the case with beating Melchiah in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered. Melchiah is a large and intimidating enemy, especially when you see him for the first time. However, he does not move as fast as Raziel, who is able to effortlessly move around the boss arena.

To make things even easier, the player merely has to interact with 3 objects, and the fight will be over without taking a single point of damage or using any of the game’s combat mechanics — which were rather revered on the PS1.

How to Defeat Melchiah in Soul Reaver

The first boss players will face off against in Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered is Melchiah. While Kain went on to become deified, Melchiah is referred to as the weakest among Kain’s sons. When players first enter the boss area, a gate will slam down behind them. This gate will not go back up, even after the boss is defeated, and Raziel will need to acquire a new power to pass through these bars after defeating Melchiah.

Once the cutscene is over, Melchiah will begin his attack, which consists of slowly moving up the player and striking within melee range. Players will see there is a large metal cage in the middle of the boss arena; if they run to the other side of it, Melchiah will phase through the bars to get to the player. At opposite ends of this cage are 2 gates, and players can high jump to reach the opening on either side of both gates. This will take them to a room with a level to raise up the gate. Lure Melchiah to either of these rooms with enough time to raise the gate. Then hold it until he is under the gate to drop it down and deal damage.

If the gate is shut when Melchiah reaches it, he will simply phase through it.

Once both of these gates have been used to damage Melchiah, there will be a cinematic that focuses on a crank. This crank is perpendicular to where the gates are, on the east side of the boss arena. Stand on the opposite side of the large center cage to have Melchiah phase into it, and then make a run for the crank. Once you interact with it, a cutscene will trigger.

You can sit back and watch your victory, followed by acquiring a new power that will let you phase through bars just like Melchiah. This looks better than ever thanks to Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 Remastered’s improvements over the original game. This can be used to access new areas, as well as get your hands on collectibles such as Glyphs and artifacts that will enhance your stamina.
