Harry Bosch bought his Hollywood Hills apartment that overlooks the city of Angels with a payout from a film company for his work as a technical advisor on a miniseries based on one of the cases he solved. It was a good way to explain how the luxurious abode came to be in his possession, despite being on an LAPD detective’s salary. The home was a mainstay throughout the original Bosch series, but when Bosch: Legacy was launched in 2022, Harry Bosch was forced to leave his home after an earthquake rocked the structure of it, and it was red tagged by a city inspector.
Bosch was not only forced to adapt to his new life as a private investigator in Bosch: Legacy, but he was also now without the place where he lays his head. Bosch took up temporary residence in his office, often sleeping on the couch with his pet dog, Coltrane, while the repairs were carried out. Fans were just as disappointed not to see Bosch in his home and surveying the Los Angeles area from his balcony, while listening to classic jazz music. However, Bosch: Legacy season 2 saw Harry Bosch back where he belongs, and despite the repairs not being complete, he ripped the red tag off and fixed the rest himself and moved back in.

Taking Bosch Away From His Apartment Was A Creative Choice And It Worked For The Most Part
The decision to take Harry Bosch away from his home was a creative choice, and Titus Welliver explained the reasons behind it in an interview with TVLine to promote the launch of Bosch: Legacy back in 2022:
Be very worried. I think the idea is to sort of ‘separate Harry from his perch,’ and disorient him. But it was very much a big part of a discussion, and it’s by design. So, yes, the fans should kind of look at it, observe it and be concerned and then, ultimately, kind of figure that, as with all things we do, we paint Harry into a corner and then give him a brush to paint his way out.
It was definitely a clever move to take Harry Bosch out of his comfort zone in Bosch: Legacy, to see how he would react without being able to retreat to his home. It also worked to disorientate the audience, as they’d become accustomed to seeing Bosch in his legendary home for seven seasons in the original Bosch series. It was a good way of illustrating that Bosch: Legacy is its own show, and the character will have new obstacles to overcome. However, when the house returned in the second season, it was like being re-united with an old friend, and that familiarity played a key part in the success of the sophomore run.
