You start the Path of Exile 2 campaign immediately by witnessing the sorrow and despair of people facing the darkness. You quickly slay a beast trying to invade the Clearfell Encampment, which is a safe zone for travelers.
The moment you enter the safe zone, you get a quest to slay another beast of darkness, called the Devourer. Renly explains that the beast has been terrorizing the people of Clearfell Encampment to the point nobody is leaving the walls to look for food anymore.

Where To Find The Devourer In Path of Exile 2
After you enter Clearfell Encampment, you meet with Renly, who explains that there’s a beast of a particular dark power stalking them; he calls it the Devourer. After giving you a quest to hunt it down, it’ll start the Treacherous Ground quest in Path of Exile 2. The quest has two objectives:
- Search the Clearfell to find the Mud Burrow entrance.
- Slay the Devourer in its lair.
To find the Devourer in PoE 2, you must head inside the Mud Burrow. Enter the next area right after the Clearfell Encampment, which is the Clearfell. From the Clearfell, keep taking your right, heading east to find the Mud Burrow. Once you make it inside the Mud Burrow, the quest objective will change to:
- Find the Devourer and slay it.
Although the map is randomized, the Devourer always resides in the same spot, away from the entrance. So, no matter what your dungeon’s map looks like, just keep taking a side path and going through it, until you find the Devourer. For example, if you enter the Mud Burrow with the routes leading you north, keep taking any northeast route until you reach the Devourer. If you reach a dead-end, go back and take the next northeastern route.
As one of the first bosses in PoE 2, the Devourer is not an easy monster to slay, especially if you’re low-level. Make sure your Path of Exile 2 character is above level three and slightly geared up, as it makes the fight a lot easier.
The Devourer keeps going underground, changing positions and dealing damage. They’ll also summon lots of insects that will crowd and annoy you as you fight the beast. After dealing some damage, the Devourer will start attacking with their tail, dealing a significant amount of damage, so, avoid these attacks at all costs.
After you slay the Devourer in Path of Exile 2, the quest’s objective will change to Talk to Renly for your Reward. He’ll reward you with an Uncut Support Gem, saying it won’t cover their debt, but take it as thanks.
