How To Bind Skills & Equip Skill Gems

In Path of Exile 2, abilities and skills come from Skill Gems which can be slotted into a new menu separate from your Armor. To unlock Skills in PoE 2, you will get Uncut Skill Gems (and Uncut Support Gems) from monster and chest drops, as well as some quests. After using an Uncut Skill Gem, and selecting a Skill to unlock, you will be given a Skill Gem of the chosen ability in your inventory.

Path of Exile 2: All Class Ascendancies (& Ascendancy Nodes)

Every class can unlock Class Ascendancies in Path of Exile 2, which grant unique abilities that expand and empower each of the game’s base classes.

From there, you must slot the ability into your Skill Menu, then bind the skill to your action bar, to use it. This guide explains how to bind new abilities in Path of Exile 2, how to equip Skill Gems to grant you these abilities, and what methods you must follow to bind new skills for both PC and Console players.

To open your Skill Menu and see all current Skills, press the G Key. Console players should open up their character menu and tab over to the Skills tab. In this screen, your currently-equipped Skill Gems are listed in separate rows with at least two Support Gem slots to their right.

How To Bind Skills In Path of Exile 2 (PC/WASD)

After getting a Skill Gem, open up your Skill Menu with the G key, and your Inventory with the I key. Your Inventory will open on the right and your Skill screen should be on the left.

Pick up your Skill Gem by left-clicking on it (or right-clicking it to open the Skill Menu automatically), and drag it over to one of the far-left open circles. There are two smaller sockets to the right of the larger socket on the left of each entry in this menu – these are for Support Gems, not Skill Gems.

Drag your chosen Skill Gem over the large socket on the left and drop it in to add it to your Skills. The Gem will socket, and a small icon will appear above the Skill Gem itself.

From here, there are two ways to equip and bind a new skill: either drag this Icon to your action bar and drop it onto the key you want to bind it to, or left-click a slot on your action bar to bind your new Path of Exile 2 skill.

  • If you drop the skill from your Skill Menu to your action bar, it will automatically appear and your character will cast it when you press the associated binding.
  • If you left-click the button on your action bar to choose a skill, hover over each Skill that appears to make sure you select the correct one, then left-click your choice to bind it to that button.

To re-bind an existing skill, follow the same methods. Either drag the skill icon from the Skill Menu to your desired binding on your action bar, or select a button on your action bar and re-assign Skills via the mini-menu that pops up.
