The actor has played the serial killer with a code in over 100 episodes, and he’ll be back as Dexter’s inner voiceover in Original Sin. Dexter’s life is flashing before his eyes as the ambulance rushes to the scene to potentially save his life. It’s a clever way to introduce the events of the prequel, but it’s also a very obvious marketing ploy to get people to tune into Original Sin. Michael C. Hall’s appearance would have been a good surprise reveal to save until the first episode of Original Sin, but it’s clear that Paramount and Showtime know they needed to put the legendary actor in the trailer to attract legacy fans. This isn’t the first time this has happened, and it certainly won’t be the last. For instance, when the Bosch: Legacy spin-off, Ballard, premieres in late 2025, Harry Bosch will almost definitely feature heavily in the trailer, even though he only appears in three episodes. Original Sin Needs Michael C. Hall But It’ll Also Need A Compelling Origin Story To Be A Success
Michael C. Hall announced he would be providing his iconic tones for the inner voice of Dexter in Original Sin, at San Diego Comic Con 2024 back in July of this year. It was a surprise to many excited fans, and this was just the tip of the iceberg, as he also confirmed he would take on the lead role in a sequel series, even though Dexter supposedly died at the end of the limited series, New Blood. The 10 episode series became Showtime’s biggest ever ratings hit, and it was inevitable the Dexter-verse had to continue. The prequel series and a Harrison spin-off were announced as the merger with Paramount came to fruition, but the latter series was axed. The head honchos knew Harrison wasn’t popular enough, and they needed Michael C. Hall to spearhead the future of the franchise. So, as it stands, Hall will appear in both the prequel and the sequel series, which just proves how much they actually need him.
Michael C. Hall’s presence is not enough on its own to ensure the success of Original Sin, as it’ll need a worthy origin story to go alongside his iconic voiceover retelling his story from the present timeline. Fans are keen to see what Patrick Gibson will do with the character of young Dexter, and he has big shoes to fill. It already looks like Original Sin will include a key flashback of Dexter’s first kill, so fans will have no choice but to compare him to his predecessor. However, the inclusion of Michael C.
