Treyarch often has great designs for their multiplayer maps, allowing players to enjoy some online action with great lanes of war. However, some fans aren’t entirely happy with the launch selection of Black Ops 6, and while the addition of Nuketown might be a saving grace, some of the best MP maps in the Black Ops franchise deserve a comeback worthy of how good Black Ops 6 actually is.

The Best Call Of Duty Maps In The Franchise
There are a lot of maps in the Call of Duty series but some are better than others. Here’s a look at the best of the bunch throughout the franchise.
The best Treyarch maps in Call of Duty history have a good shot of returning in a full remake form for Black Ops 6’s exciting gameplay, and from World at War to Black Ops Cold War, it will be a great time for all to see these absolute bangers and classics return for the modern generation.
8 Castle
An Old Japanese Fortress Engulfed in War
- Featured in: Call of Duty: World at War, Call of Duty: Vanguard
One of the best multiplayer maps in World at War was Castle, a Japanese castle that took the war to the Pacific mainland and had plenty of gorgeous sights for the PS3/Xbox 360 era. Castle had different avenues of battle, allowing players to engage in courtyards, perch on castle walls, or deep within the central chambers of the map.
For the PS3 era, Castle was a pretty big map, and its size would actually benefit from what is expected of modern Call of Duty Multiplayer maps. With a versatility of different lanes, close-range battles, and long-range battles would come in stuffed handfuls for everyone to enjoy.
7 Evac
Abandoned Singapore Rooftops for Open Action
- Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 3
Black Ops 3 featured a distinct gameplay version thanks to its jet thrusters that allowed players to boost, jump, and wall run across the map. While Black Ops 6 has its own variation of movement with Omnimovement, it’s not as adrenaline-fueled as what is expected of Black Ops 3 maps, where most of the designs are centered around the jet boosters that players can use to navigate and run across walls and platforms.
As such, Evac might need a few bits and pieces about its design reworked, but as it stands, it’s one of the best maps from Black Ops 3. It’s reasonably short in some places, and lengthy in others, and the multitude of different platforms makes for excellent perches for snipers, but also great flanking spots for boots-on-the-ground mayhem.
6 Grind
A Radical Skate Park for Corner Camping and Grinding
- Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Taking to the coolness of Venice Beach, players can engage in combat in a literal skate park, where a bunch of ramps, tubes, and jumps will provide varying degrees of cover for shutting down lanes, camping, and engaging in head-on battles that will result in one person respawning filled with bullet holes.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 reintroduces the Prestige Permanent Unlock system, and selecting the best items early on can make your progression smoother.
Grind is a close-range map with many tight corners, and the indoor sections of the map are truly the most engaging thanks to the central lanes that players can access. It’s one of the best out there, and it’s highly engaging due to its fast movement and open-cover design.
5 Express
A Bullet Train Station in a Semi-Circle Design
- Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Express has a few essential lanes to navigate through its design of warfare, and while it’s great on any mode, it really shines in Search and Destroy thanks to the separated spawn pools and the situational avenues that anyone can utilize for themselves. With combat situated near train tracks and an unmoving train that can be accessed, combat can range from tight to long-range.
The multiple avenues of attack are spanning and lengthy, and it’s always fun and intense to try and navigate through the train tracks while trying to avoid fire from long-range weapons. There’s always a gunfight in the main hall area, and the train tracks themselves are popular for some deadly confrontations.
4 Raid
A Hollywood Hills Mansion with Plenty of Close Quarters Engagements
- Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Raid is easily one of the most popular maps in Black Ops 2, and veterans will know why. The map is extremely engaging, and close quarters have never felt so good. The multiple buildings and fountains make for stellar and situational cover, and the battlefield is constantly moving spawn points from how players will roam around in search of enemies in this fairly sized map.

Raid benefits from all forms of gameplay, as there are multiple lanes where snipers can perch and plenty of avenues that players can run through for more close-quarters action. The mansion itself is brimming with immersive design so it’s always fun to find creative ways to camp or hunt down enemies.
3 Summit
A Narrow and Snowy Research Facility
- Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Summit takes players to the mountains, where they are engaged in a vicious battle against the elements and deadly drops on all sides where gravity certainly isn’t their friend. Navigating through snowy terrain and fighting players on a rather linear and straightforward map brings back the classic days, and it’s screaming for a PS5/Xbox Series X remaster.
The idea of a map drowning in snow could make for some fun situations where mist and fog encapsulate player view, and it’s a deadly map for scorestreaks because of how openly designed it is. There’s always a central war going on in the main compound, and which veteran could ever forget the sniper nest camp spot in the tram cart?
2 Hijacked
The Frantic Combat Inside a Luxurious Super Yacht
- Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War
Hiacjked isn’t just one of Treyarch’s best maps, but it’s one of Call of Duty’s best maps in general. Hijacked is extremely entertaining and fast-paced, and the frantic action within is like Nuketown but in the middle of the ocean. This is a map that deserves to be remade time and again due to its fast-paced engagements on a superyacht, filled with intense combat through sharp corners and confined areas.
Hijacked may feature an abundance of close-quarters combat, but the sniper nests in the opposite rooms from the yacht itself can be a great time to lock down lanes for teammates, while also having to watch out for a rogue sprinter downstairs. There are many accessible areas from on top of and underneath the superyacht to make for an intense and thrilling match.
1 Firing Range
A Military Practice Facility with an Abundance of Hectic Combat
- Featured in: Call of Duty: Black Ops, Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
Firing Range is one of the most classic maps to feature in the Call of Duty series, and Treyarch has perfected the design of hectic combat that is fun for all, no matter what weapon of choice they bring into battle. Firing Range is very open, with a fair amount of cover from buildings and scrap to bring a military practice facility to life.
While SMGs will truly benefit here, there are some great reasons to use Snipers and Assault Rifles due to how players can pin down opponents from the back of the map or even in the sniper nest that can control another spawn point. Firing Range may be close-quarters, but that just adds to its thrilling nature with every respawn.
