How to Download & Play Real Time Combat Mod

There’s so much to love about Baldur’s Gate 3. Players can make choices that impact the story, pick a party out of several different companions, and customize each companion through Feats, Classes, and Subclasses. However, one of the biggest appeals of BG3 is the insanely dedicated modding scene. This has allowed players to implement many changes, from minor tweaks such as adding additional Races and Classes to much more dramatic mods that change the way the game is played. In some scenarios, moders even add new game modes, such the Trials of Tav Roguelike mode.

One of the many mods available for Baldur’s Gate 3 players is the Real Time Combat Mod. As the name suggests, this mod alters the combat encounters in BG3 to play in real-time, rather than turn-based combat. Players can use a fully customizable QuickCast system, as well as reworked Dash and Jump mechanics, and a Mana system with scaling Mana costs and regeneration. Everything you’ll need to know about how to download and install this mod has been included in the guide below.

Unfortunately, this is not one of the mods included in Baldur’s Gate 3’s in-game mod manager. This means that to install the Real Time Combat Mod for Baldur’s Gate 3, players will need to have the Baldur’s Gate Mod 3 Manager (BG3MM) downloaded, and then head over to the mod page on Nexus Mods. Now, press the manual download button on the mod page, and download the mod, as well as any other mod files that are required for it to work. A pop-up will occur and indicate this if there are additional downloads needed, with direct links to download them.

Once you have downloaded these files, open BG3MM. If you have not yet installed or updated Script Extender, you will need to do this by clicking the Tools tab to open a dropdown menu, and then select Download & Extract Script Extender. BG3MM will take care of the rest of this process. Click the Go tab to open a dropdown menu, and select Open Mod Folder.

Now, locate the downloaded mod files on your PC, and drag and drop them into this mod folder. You may need to extract files with a program like WinRAR or WinZip before you are able to drag and drop them. Now, on BG3MM, refresh the app, and the mod should show up on the right side of the app. You can now drag it over to the left side to assign it as an active mod. Lastly, use the Export Order to Game button to write the mods to your BG3 game.

You will now be able to launch Baldur’s Gate 3. Once you load into the main menu, double-check that the mod is registered in the game by clicking the main menu Mods tab, and then scrolling down to view the mods you currently have installed. If done correctly, the Real Time Combat Mod should show up just like any other mod that you have downloaded through the Patch 7 in-game mod manager. Note that it may be marked as a Third Party Mod with an orange indicator/warning. Ensure this mod is toggled on, and then launch your desired playthrough. Everything should now be working as intended.
