Staying out of sight is of the utmost importance when traveling across the vast maps of DayZ. While traveling deep inland and on the outskirts of towns is usually advised, the most seasoned DayZ veterans will know exactly where to find just about any type of player. This is where the Ghillie Suit comes into play.
The Ghillie Suit camouflages players in nearly any natural environment, from vast forests to single bushes, rendering them nearly invisible when used correctly. This makes the Ghillie Suit one of the most sought-after items in DayZ. The guide below will show players exactly how to craft it.
How to Make a Ghillie Suit in DayZ
The Ghillie Suit can be crafted by combining ten Burlap Strips and four Netting together in the inventory. To do so, players must simply place the Netting in their hands, and then drag the Burlap Strips over to the “Combine” section. For those unaware, Burlap Strips can be created by cutting a Burlap Sack with a Knife, and Netting can often be found near washed-up boats on the shore.
While the Ghillie Suit is quite useful in itself, there are four other Ghillie accessories that can be crafted to complete the outfit, like the Ghillie Hood or the Ghillie Gun Wrap. All of these crafting recipes will be listed below:
- Ghillie Suit = 10x Burlap Strips + 4x Netting
- Ghillie Hood = 2x Burlap Strips + 1x Netting
- Ghillie Cloak = 6x Burlap Strips + 3x Netting
- Ghillie Shrug = 4x Burlap Strips + 2x Netting
- Ghillie Gun Wrap = 2x Burlap Strips + 1x Netting
Once the full Ghillie Suit is crafted, players can blend into bushes for hours, stalking unsuspecting victims. However, DayZ players should note that wearing a Ghillie Suit prevents the use of a backpack, significantly reducing their inventory space. To compensate, wear clothing with maximum inventory capacity.

How to Find a Ghillie Suit in DayZ
Besides its ability to be crafted with Burlap Strips and Netting, Ghillie Suits can also be looted at the various helicopter crash sites found on every map of DayZ. In fact, only the tan version of the Ghillie Suit can be crafted, while the Woodland (Livonia exclusive) and Mossy (Chernarus exclusive) suits can only be found at the aforementioned crash sites.
Helicopter crash sites are often found on the western side of Chernarus, especially near Zelenogorsk. Players should listen for distinct crash sounds and head in that direction. Spotting a smoke plume will lead players to high-quality military gear, including a chance to find a Ghillie Suit.
That being said, it is much easier to craft a Ghillie Suit in DayZ than for players to risk their gear at these highly populated helicopter crash sites.
