Survival game Soulmask gets colossal update, free DLC, and sale for new players

2024 has been the year of the survival game, with the likes of Once Human, Enshrouded, Nightingale, and Palworld all bursting onto the scene seemingly out of nowhere. We’ve been spoilt for choice, which makes it harder than ever to pick which game to stick with as each grows and improves. This is where the latest colossal update for Soulmask comes in, as the Steam Early Access survival experience has been massively overhauled with gameplay enhancements, a free DLC, and even a sale. So if you want to take some time away from the year’s biggest games, now’s your chance to check out Soulmask.

After six months in early access, the Soulmask Wild Ride update is the survival game’s “biggest and most transformative yet” according to developer CampFire Studio. You’ve got new mounts, items, mechanics, and plenty more to try out over the holiday season.  Soulmask already boasts over 500 hours of playtime, but this update promises to extend the game even further.

To start, Soulmask now has brand-new map events where you can plunder resources from prospecting squads of NPCs. Your opponents will put up a fight, of course, but they hold plenty of precious cargo. You may even come across the new Shadowblade boss during your raids, so you’ll want to be suitably prepared.

There’s also the new Honor Arena, which pits Soulmask’s three tribes against each other in fights to the death. You’ll want to equip and use your strongest tribespeople because if you win there are exclusive new emotes and material rewards waiting for you. If you’d rather avoid all that bloodshed, an advanced animal breeding mechanic has also been added to the Wild Ride patch. You can rear lots of new animals for their specific resources, and utilize a large beast trap to capture baby bison, tortoises, and horned eagles.

You can even set out across the frozen landscape riding new Elephant mounts, which CampFire Studio wants to act like “your cargo carrier, tactical weapon, or even your mobile home.” The mount carries a giant platform atop its back, which you can use as a mobile camp or siege weapon – depending on your mood. If you’d rather get around faster Soulmask now has gliders, which harness the wind current to keep you flying as long as possible.

There are even some smaller, but still impactful, additions to Soulmask with the Wild Ride update. CampFire Studio has optimized controller support, and it now includes fully customizable button mapping for every screen. There’s also a new photo mode, which you can use to freeze time at any moment and take scenic shots of Soulmask’s world.

Soulmask’s Wild Ride update is also accompanied by a free DLC, and you can download the Cozy Tribe Decoration Pack right now. It comes with an entirely new building material for all your bases, as you can use Obsidian to add a darker tinge to your structures. There are also new winter decorations like hearths, fur beds, and an array of plants to make your virtual home feel truly alive.

That’s not all, either, as you can get some free rewards simply by watching streamers play Soulmask on Twitch. If you watch people play for at least 60 minutes you’ll get the Frozen Blue Shadow Sled Skin, while watching for 90 minutes will net you the Windrider Glider Skin.

CampFire Studio is selling Soulmask at a 20% discount on Steam right now, so you can expect to pay $23.99 / £19.99 until Monday December 9. The game can be found right here.
