HBO’s The Last of Us season two will continue its harrowing and action-packed story when it releases in 2025, but until then, Troy Baker has offered up a light-hearted antidote regarding the very first time he met Pedro Pascal on the show’s set. The Last of Us season two will pick things up from where it left off in season one, and hone into the events adapted from Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 video game. After adventuring half-way across North America, Joel and Ellie have settled in Jackson, a town located in Jackson County, Wyoming, where Ellie will learn whether she can truly trust the man she sees as a father figure due to his actions at the Firefly hospital, and discover what confusing factors that can bring.

Although many new and exciting faces will join the cast, like Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Jeffrey Wright as the ruthless WLF leader Isaac Dixon, The Last of Us season two will see the return of Pedro Pascal (Joel), Bella Ramsey (Ellie) and Gabriel Luna (Tommy), as the sequel aims to cover even more material than its predecessor. Season two directors, Neil Druckmann, Craig Mazin, and Peter Hoar also hope to keep dedicated fans of its source material happy with a faithful retelling of its emotionally complex and somber narrative.

In season one of The Last of Us, Baker took on the role of James, a follower of David’s horrific religious cult. After David kidnapped Ellie in The Last of Us episode eight, and held her in a home-made prison, James told David that they shouldn’t keep her restrained any longer. Whenever David released Ellie, she took this as the perfect opportunity to try and escape, but this led to the pair trying to catch her. Never shy about defending herself in a fight, Ellie grabbed a meat cleaver and drove it into James’ neck, killing him instantly.

The first teaser trailer for The Last of Us season 2 revealed some interesting scenes from the game that will be included in the TV series. The wholesome moment where Joel finally teaches Ellie how to play the guitar and also an emotional and important moment where Ellie is in her winter coat watching Joel play his beloved guitar on his porch, which directly mirrors a pivotal point in time from The Last of Us Part 2.
