Age of Empires 2 owners will now get over $100 worth of DLC for free

Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition is now five years old – a rather staggering statistic, although it pales in comparison to the 25 years since the original edition of the classic RTS game first hit shelves. The series still stands tall among genre fellows such as StarCraft, Command and Conquer, and Total Annihilation, and its remaster is the cherry on top. To celebrate the occasion, Xbox Game Studios has quite the present. Starting from now, everyone who owns or buys the historical strategy spectacular will get three of its best paid expansions thrown in for free.

If you already own Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition, or buy it at any point from today, you’ll automatically get three of its expansions for free if you don’t already have them. The pieces of DLC in question are Lords of the West, Dawn of the Dukes, and Dynasties of India – with each normally costing $35 / £26, that’s more than $100 worth of add-ons in total. In fact, because the base game features the same price tag, you’re effectively getting four times the value if you buy the RTS game now.

Tallying up the additions, that means seven new civilizations across the three packs: Burgundians and Sicilians from Lords of the West; Bengalis, Dravidians, and Gurjaras from Lords of India; and Bohemians and Poles from Dawn of the Dukes. There are also three complete, fully voiced campaigns included in each of the expansions for a total of nine, so you’ll be more stuffed with things to do than ever before. Our Age of Empires 2 DE review already hailed the remaster as the best way to play, and now that’s truer than ever.

If that’s still not enough, there’s even more good news. New DLC Chronicles: Battle for Greece has just landed, and while it’s a slightly smaller, lower-priced offering, there’s still a whole lot to dig into. You’ve got the Achaemenids, the Athenians, and the Spartans, along with a naval combat overhaul and unique mechanics such as customizable town centers. There are 85 new buildings, 55 land units, 19 naval units, and a 21-scenario campaign to keep you busy.

Age of Empires 2 DE Chronicles: Battle for Greece is out now, priced at $14.99 / £12.49. Find it along with the new, better-value base game right here. If you have an active subscription to PC Game Pass, you can also play Age of Empires 2 Definitive Edition as part of the included Microsoft library.
