EA Boss Could Be Jumping Ship to Disney

The Walt Disney Company may find its next leader in EA CEO Andrew Wilson, with reports claiming the longtime gaming boss could step into the role when Bob Iger steps down. The news comes as discussion continues to swirl about the future of Disney, a company that has certainly seen its fair share of shifts over the last few years, notably within its own leadership, with many more changes coming within the next decade. EA‘s own Andrew Wilson may very well oversee these changes, as Disney is on the cusp of naming its next leader.

EA is a giant in the video gaming world, publishing some of the industry’s leading brands, like The Sims, EA Sports FC, and Battlefield. More recently, EA backed BioWare’s Dragon Age: The Veilguard, a game that has proven to be both popular and divisive. The controversy began brewing months before The Veilguard‘s launch at the end of October, with the game acting as the first entry in the series since 2014’s Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, the future of EA is uncertain, with The Walt Disney Company reportedly looking to the gaming company’s own boss as its next CEO.

Andrew Wilson is being eyed for the job of Disney’s next CEO, according to a new report by The Wall Street Journal. Wilson has been part of the EA team for 24 years and has overseen some of its biggest releases, with the company’s EA Sports College Football 25 enjoying an incredibly successful launch earlier this year. The Australian-born businessman has become the de facto face of EA over the years, first stepping into the role of CEO in 2013 following the resignation of John Riccitiello.

Andrew Wilson Reportedly Being Considered For Disney’s Next CEO

All eyes are still on Disney following its decision to oust former CEO Bob Chapek back in 2022. By all accounts, Chapek had become a very divisive and controversial figure within Disney, though the announcement of his departure came abruptly and swiftly. This allowed former CEO Bob Iger to step back into the role he had called home for over a decade. Iger is expected to step down sometime in 2026.

EA‘s Andrew Wilson is far from the only name being thrown out regarding Bob Iger’s potential successor. Current Disney Parks and Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro is a front-runner for those who are in tune with the company’s theme parks. The executive essentially acts as the face of Disney for its large-scale events like D23, which was held in both California and Brazil this year. Whoever replaces Iger, it’s clear they have big shoes to fill, with the entertainment industry veteran overseeing some of the company’s biggest moments, such as its purchase of Lucasfilm in 2012 or Disney’s new deal with Fortnite developer Epic Games.
