Deadpool & Wolverine continues to be one of if not arguably the most successful movies of 2024 when you consider how much money is still pouring into theaters and on-demand vendors. And that’s before it its stay on Dsiney+ later in November.

One of the biggest reasons Deadpool & Wolverine has been so success is obviously the many, many cameos made by past, and some potentially future Marvel stars all banding together in one room to try and take down the film’s big bad. For the most part, it appears that so many starring roles could have led to a little bit of issues with egos clashing. But it appears everyone, from Wesley Snipes to Jennifer Garner to Dafne Keen very much enjoyed working on the projection. In fact, there were times when Keen had to set som rules in place because of just how much fun everyone was having in shooting certain scenes.

Deadpool & Wolverine Actress Had One Demand

Keen recently spoke to Cinema Blend about her experiences bringing her Logan character, X-23, back onto the big screen and into the MCU for the first time. Among the topics she discussed was trying to work with co-star Channing Tatum when he was in character as Gambit. The Creole hero has a canonically thick Cajun accent. In Deadpool & Wolverine, Tatum leaned into that trait by making it nearly impossible to understand his dialogue whenever he spoke. Meanwhile, Keen’s X-23 character is usually seen as strong, stoic and not exactly someone who is grinning ear to ear. Keen said she had a hard time staying in character around Tatum because of his character’s accent.

I died of laughter. I genuinely… no, I couldn’t. This is absurd because, so, people like me and Hugh had to have straight faces and be grumpy. And I can’t do that when Channing is doing this absurd thing in the corner, yapping next to me.

Keen said she simply couldn’t keep a straight face, especially when the Gambit actor was gearing up to lay down some even more bizarre Cajun lines in order to really stand out. Eventually, the actress said she had to tell Tatum that he wasn’t allowed to talk when she was doing her coverage, because otherwise she wouldn’t be able to keep the serious face she was supposed to have during much of her screen time.

It certainly couldn’t have been all that easy to stay in character, especially when considering it was very clear that the movie continued leaning into the idea that no one could understand Gambit. There were more than a few exchanges between him and the “Merc with a Mouth” where the entire bit was Gambit becoming more and more difficult to understand.

It seems to have worked out just fine for everyone involved in the project. There’s been talk that Keen will return in another MCU project at some point in the near future. There’s also been talk Tatum’s performance in Deadpool & Wolverine convinced Marvel execs they needed to find something else for him to do in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the near future.
