Mass Effect's N7 Day Surprise Is N7 Armour In Dragon Age: The Veilguard

There were repeated warnings from those at BioWare that this year’s N7 Day, an annual celebration of Mass Effect, would be a “lighter one” considering the studio just shipped a major title, Dragon Age: The Veilguard. That being said, the result was pretty cool, with N7-inspired cosmetic armour being added to the aforementioned The Veilguard.

With the release of Patch 1.0.0, a chest will now appear beside Caretaker’s Workshop at The Lighthouse. The only prerequisite for this chest appearing is the completion of The Singing Blade, an early main quest where the team returns to the site of Solas’ ritual to retrieve the Lyrium Dagger. The chest has a note attached to it from Harding, which reads “I guess this chest got lost in the Fade, and someone shepherded it to our doorstep. Is it just me, or does the armour look somehow familiar—like something an old friend would wear?”

The obvious pun alludes to Commander Shepard, the protagonist of the Mass Effect trilogy. The contents of the chest include two pieces of cosmetic armour and a cosmetic helmet. These are Specter of Battle’s Past, Paragon of Leadership and Command Helmet. The first is an allusion to Shepard being a Spectre, essentially a galactic government agent. The second is a reference to Mass Effect’s morality system, which measures how Paragon (good) or Renegade (bad) Shepard is.

The statement released by BioWare for this year’s N7 Day reads as follows, “November 7 has arrived once again, and as always, we’re grateful for the opportunity to celebrate all things Mass Effect! This year is a little different, as we just launched Dragon Age: The Veilguard as a studio; so we’re purposefully keeping things lighter as we celebrate the launch of the game (speaking of which, you may notice a small treat from the Mass Effect team in Dragon Age: The Veilguard if you check out a new chest inside the Lighthouse.

The statement concludes by mentioning the ongoing Mass Effect crossovers with No Man’s Sky and Destiny 2, and expresses that the team “couldn’t be more excited for what’s to come.” It’s unknown how advanced Mass Effect 5 is in development but since Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn’t set to receive any expansions, development is sure to ramp up on the title now that Dragon Age has been released.
