And, as always, lots of characters mean lots of voice actors who give life to said characters. From you to your villains and the many members of the factions you’ll meet, Dragon Age: The Veilguard has quite the cast to talk about here, filled with veterans from the gaming industry to newcomers to gaming.

Rook

Choose Your Voice

A custom Rook from Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

A big part of this game is the fact that you make your character – and credit where credit is due; BioWare did an outstanding job with the character creator. One of the many things you’ll decide is a voice, and you’ll have two masculine voices and two feminine voices as options – you can also lower their pitch if you want to.

The voices were provided by:

  • Alex Jordan, from Stellar Blade and Dragon’s Dogma 2;
  • Jeff Berg, from Persona 3 Reload and Battlefield 1;
  • Bryony Corrigan, from Greedfall 2: The Dying World and Baldur’s Gate 3;
  • Erika Ishii, from Crash Team Rumble and Destiny 2: Lightfall. She’s also the lead for Ghost of Yotei.

Varric Tethras And Solas

The Good And The Bad

Following up with Dragon Age: Inquisition’s ending, Solas is adamant about tearing the veil, and Varric calls upon you, dear Rook, to help him stop Solas. The voice behind Varric is Brian Bloom, while the voice behind Solas is Gareth David-Lloyd, both returning for their respective characters, as they were both in previous titles.

Brian has been in many games, such as Midnight Suns, Star Wars: The Old Republic, and Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth. Gareth hasn’t been in as many games, and most games he’s been in are part of the Dragon Age series – as Solas – but he’s also been in Dance of Death: Du Lac & Fey and Red Faction: Armageddon.

9

Elgar’nan And Ghilan’nain

Back From The Past

Ghilannain and Elgarnan in Dragon Age The Veilguard.

Solas isn’t the only ugly, elven deity you need to fight against. The main villains of the story are Elgar’nan and Ghilan’nain, portrayed by Joseph Capp and Michelle Gomez, respectively. Both performances were powerful and intimidating, showing that they were the right people for the job.

Apparently, Joseph is used to evil elves, as he portrayed Nere in Baldur’s Gate 3, which shows his range since their voices aren’t similar. Michelle doesn’t have many games in her repertoire, but she’s been in a few Doctor Who-related games to portray her character from the series, Missy. She’s also Madame Rouge in Doom Patrol.

8

The Grey Wardens

In War, Victory

The Grey Wardens are the first line of defense against the darkspawn, so when evil gods begin blighting everything, it’s expected to see the wardens making an appearance. There are quite a few wardens you’ll meet throughout your journey:

  • First Warden, portrayed by Nicholas Boulton;
  • Antoine, portrayed by Ben Cura;
  • Evka, portrayed by Ellen Dubin;
  • Assan, portrayed by Jake Green (we know he’s not a warden, but we felt like it was worth mentioning).

7

The Veil Jumpers

Explore The Ruins

Founded by the Dalish, the Veil Jumpers appear quite early on in the adventure, which is only fair – they know how awful their gods used to be, so they’ll do something about it. Not a lot of Jumpers are key characters with names, but the biggest ones are Strife and Irelin.

The are lots of Runes to find and buy in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but which are the best for all classes?

Strife’s voice comes from James Lewis, while Irelin’s comes from Haruka Kuroda. James has been in big games, such as Skyrim and Fallout 3, while Haruka has been in Rise of the Ronin, Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes, and Just Cause 2.

Your interactions with the Veil Jumpers are also where we first see Morrigan, portrayed by Claudia Black, returning for the role since she’s portrayed the character before.

6

The Shadow Dragons

And The Threads

In Minrathous, you’ll find a lot of interesting people protecting the city, such as the anti-corruption resistance known as the Shadow Dragons, along with a group of criminals called the Threads, which aren’t as bad as the town’s government but aren’t nice people either. Here’s everyone in the groups and who they’re played by:

  • Maevaris Tilani, portrayed by Candis Cayne;
  • Dorian Pavus, portrayed by Ramon Tikaram;
  • The Viper, portrayed by Matthew Mercer (who also voices Manfred, by the way);
  • Tarquin, portrayed by Riley Carter Millington;
  • Rana Savas, portrayed by Nimmy March;
  • Elek Tavor, portrayed by Sacha Dhawan.

5

The Lords Of Fortune

Claim Some Treasure

Isabela from Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Treasure hunting is a good business and there’s a whole faction about that. There aren’t many prominent characters in this faction, aside from Taash and people related to their storyline, so there aren’t many people to talk about.

That said, Isabela returns, portrayed by Victoria Kruger, who also voiced her in Inquisition and Dragon Age 2. Her role isn’t big, but it’s nice to see her return.

4

The Mourn Watch

Embrace Lichdom

Similar to the Lords of Fortune, there aren’t many key characters within the Mourn Watch, aside from our companion and the best character in the game, Manfred, whom we already highlighted above that the legendary Matthew Mercer also portrays.

Two other characters are part of the Mourn Watch, though, as well as our main contact when it comes to quests: Myrna, portrayed by Ione Butler, and the intimidating Vorgoth, portrayed by Brent Mukai.

3

The Antivan Crows

House Of The Death

The Antivan Crows are master assassins and likely the faction you picked for your rogue character. Their key characters revolve around the Dellamorte family, though there are quite a few other crows from outside the family that appear here. They are:

  • Caterina Dellamorte, portrayed by Elena de Maeztu;
  • Illario Dellamorte, portrayed by Leonardo Santaiti;
  • Viago De Riva, portrayed by Joseph Mesiano;
  • Andarateia Cantori, portrayed by Carolina Ravassa.

2

The Inquisitor

Back For More

The Inquisitor, protagonist of Dragon Age: Inquisition, returns as an NPC, helping you out during your fight against the elven gods. However, they are also customizable characters, so you can create them from scratch or re-create them based on the Inquisitor you made long ago. Because they’re customizable, they also come with multiple voices, just like Rook.

The voices were provided by:

  • Alix Wilton Regan, from Elder Scrolls Online and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty;
  • Harry Hadden-Paton, from Marvel’s Avengers and Divinity: Original Sin 2;
  • Sumalee Montano, from Ghost of Tsushima and Starfield;
  • Jon Curry, from Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Hitman.

All of them are reprising their roles, meaning these are the voices of the Inquisitor from Dragon Age: Inquisition, too.

1

Other Villains

There Are More Than Three Enemies, You Know

Along with all the main plot you have to deal with, you’ll also fight a few people along the way, usually from helping factions deal with their problems or villains related to your companions’ backstories. Either way, more enemies for you to stop to save the world.

  • Gloom Howler, portrayed by Kirsty Dillon;
  • Johanna Hezenkoss, portrayed by Juliet Landau;
  • Zara Renata, portrayed by Dawn M. Bennett;
  • Aelia, portrayed by Gabrielle Nellis-Pain;
  • Cyrian, portrayed by Tim Chiou;
  • Dragon King, portrayed by Michael-Leon Wooley.
