How To Defeat Arnold Maulrich, Hero of the Chantry, Bane of Apostates In Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Wrongs of Annulment is a quest in Dragon Age: The Veilguard on the Rivain Coast that you’ll likely get later on in the game, as it involves fighting three sets of tough demons each at level 45, including a final boss battle with Arnold Maulrich, Hero of the Chantry, Bane of Apostates. It’s not as impressive a fight as his name suggests.

It’s not about how many times you fall, it’s about how many times you get back up.

Unlike other quests such as Dead Men Tell Some Tales, you won’t need to look hard for these demons. Just go to the quest marker and they appear. However, to make the fight a little easier, we suggest taking Emmrich and Harding, as Arnold is Vulnerable to Necrotic and Harding’s general Physical damage and healing Abilities come in handy.

How To Defeat The First Set Of Demons

When you first arrive, you will face three Undead Templars. These are pretty weak for being level 45, so we suggest hitting them hard with Heavy attacks to take out their Armor, then keeping on with melee strikes until they fall. This is because your Abilities can be more effectively used on the rest of the demons.

Soon after the fight begins, two Unquiet Spirits appear. These two are also not too tough, but they will Resist Emmrich’s Necrotic damage and teleport, so having Harding hit them hard and use Emmrich or Rook for Detonations. They are Vulnerable to Cold.

Then a Murdered Mage arrives with the same elemental Resistance and Vulnerability, but a ranged headshot will strip its Barrier and it should fall soon after. This will likely appear before the Spirits fall, but stay focused on one at a time.

Finally, this leads to a Demon of the Massacred appearing. This is Vulnerable to Fire, Resisting Cold. They also summon two more Unquiet Spirits, but first plunge you into darkness. Attack the ice balls it shoots, ideally from range, and hit it with Detonation Abilities and Heavy attacks once the darkness fades.

Fighting Chantry Zealot in Dragon Age The Veilguard

Three Chantry Zealots await you at your next location. Area Abilities can be used here, but melee attacks will end them quickly.

However, soon an Envy of Power arrives. This will give the Zealots Barrier, and summon them endlessly. Area or Detonation Abilities will thin the herd, while ranged attacks and high damage Abilities from Harding can make short work of it.

Fighting Arnold in Dragon Age The Veilguard

Arnold is a Superior Armored Undead, and is Vulnerable to Necrotic while Resisting Cold. However, first you need to remove its Armor with Heavy melee strikes, before landing Necrotic damage from Emmrich. Any Detonation Abilities will also strip its Armor and cause major damage.

Despite taking place on the beach, Arnold doesn’t move much in this fight, so any area Abilties can be highly effective, and can also stop his mobs. He starts with two Undead Templars by his side, and when he drops to half health, calls in two Murdered Mages. Deal with these as in the last encounters, keeping in mind that they will remain after Arnold is defeated, unlike some other boss battles.

What Are The Rewards For Wrongs Of Anulment?

When you end this quest, you will get 200 gold, 100 Lords of Fortune strength, and five Vhenadahl’s Tears. Arnold will also drop a chest (that will not appear until every enemy falls) that has two Fade-Touched Ore, 46 gold, and playing a Rogue we got a cosmetic rapier: Storm Needle.
